So this whole Yakone thing.

We know that there’s a future episode called “Skeletons in the Closet.” We know that Dante Basco (Zuko) is in it, and the role has something to do with Zuko, if not including Zuko voiced once more by Basco. ZOMG YES PLEASE.

“Skeletons in the closet” is a phrase that means “a secret source of shame, potentially ruinous if exposed, which a person or family makes efforts to conceal.”

The phrase was coined in the 19th century meaning that people took great care to conceal some facet of their lives - mentally ill family members, that one uncle that killed those people and buried them under the roses, a secret affair with someone outside of your station, etc. - to live up to societies standards. When the phrase was originally used it was almost exclusively to refer to some sort of illness, particularly mental illness, which could be perceived as damaging to a family’s reputation. No one wanted to mix with a family that had a history of mental illness.

This ignores, of course, that most of the British ruling class was terribly inbred due to snobbery so mental illness came in spades and they were all trying to hide it. But I digress.

Eventually the phrase began to encompass anything that could be consider damning to a reputation, like salacious love affairs or any behavior that was considered inappropriate or a terrible secret that could destroy everything.

Obviously we know that the whole thing with Yakone went down. We also know that Tenzin was nine or ten years old when shit went down and probably had deal with it a bit firsthand if only because his parents and uncle were involved. And we know it’s a bit of a berserk button with him.

Here’s where the theory starts:

I’m not the first to speculate that the Yakone incident is somehow tied to Amon. I don’t think that they’re the same person - but clearly something that happened with Yakone laid the groundwork for Amon’s rise to power with the Equalists. And whatever happened didn’t exactly happen as everyone thinks it did. There had to have been a complication somewhere, one that’s stayed hidden but is about to come out and now Korra’s going to have to clean up the mess or deal with the fallout from this information going public.

I think the episode “Skeletons in the Closet” is going to blow the lid off of the whole Yakone incident and how it ties to Amon and the Equalists, probably setting the stage for the last three or four episodes. I don’t think it’ll be so much about how Aang might have failed, but in doing what he had to knowingly left a mess for the avatar after him to clean up.

Though I could be completely wrong here. I usually am. Heh.
