Doctor Who, as driven home last night as a surfed YouTube for gag reels, promotional spots, the Children in Need Specials and more or less anything else I could find. David Tennant just talking in that glorious Scottish brogue? Yup, I get all wibbly and fangirly just thinking about it. (Hilariously enough, also found clips of John Barrowman speaking with a Scottish brogue, and sadly, it sounds forced on him even though that's actually his original accent.)

I've recently gotten into season 3 of the new series, so, "Hello, Martha!" Since the seasons are only 13 episodes long, it doesn't take long to get through them. Season 4 is up next, and season 5 is saved so we'll either be getting the DVDs or

Day 28 - First t.v show obsession

I believe my first, real TV obsession was The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Since the internet was still fairly new at that point, there were only a handful of JQ fansites and such, but I still frequented them. I wrote fanfiction in my head (since I didn't have a computer, and, silly me, didn't think to write them down on paper) and tried to get my best friend at the time interested
(she didn't care, as she was one of those who wanted everyone to like what SHE liked and everyone elses' interests be damned)
. I managed to meet a few other people who enjoyed the show as well, and while maybe not as into it as I was, I could at least talk about it with them (discussions about Action Girl Jessie, the Canon Foreigner, were pretty prevalent).

Even though the show has more or less been lost to the annals of time (only one season was released on DVD, and I don't even think it was the whole thing), I have to admit the idea of a JQ movie makes me ridiculously happy.

Day 27 - Best pilot episode

Hmmmm...

There was something great about the pilot episode of Gilmore Girls, though that might because of the following exchange:

You have a problem. )

However, the pilot episode of BONES was excellent as well. Though, I admit, I cackled when I realized that they were using the LACC as an airport. (For what it's worth, it does look quite a bit like an airport in certain areas.)

I don't know if there's one singular pilot that stands out as "The Best" though I would have to say that the pilot for Burn Notice was an excellent blend action, comedy and drama that had a hook to it. You may not even like those kinds of shows, but the pilot episode grabbed you and took you for a ride that you didn't want to end.

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale

Uh, let's see. I remember there being lots of head scratching during the BONES season four finale. The ending to The Vision of Escaflowne really bothered me. I didn't quite know what to make of the tactics finale.

But I think the one that really threw me for a look was the season five finale of Gilmore Girls, "A House is Not a Home." Not only was there lots of un-Rory-like behavior, I just find it hard to believe that Lorelai would just give up on Rory like that. (A sentiment shared by Lauren Graham.) And I think that firmly cemented my dislike of Logan. As much as I disliked Dean post season three, I know that he would have stopped Rory from stealing a yacht. Same with Jess. I really didn't like that Logan didn't even remotely try to stop her.

The remaining 4 days )

So today I went to the car show and "oohed" and "aahed" over all of the pretties. The highlight was the Bumblebee Edition Camaro. This was the real deal, folks, complete with Autobot insignias on the side chassis AND the steering wheel. I was drooling.

The Ren Faire was fun, but it's become a mere shadow of what it was ten years ago. So while some of the vendors were good, quite a bit of the cast looked half-assed and terrible.

Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new)

I've been told that I should watch Glee, so I'll give that a shot. However, I'm afraid that there will be some Hype Backlash and I won't like it. After all, it seems to be the one show that everyone is saying, "OMFG if you aren't watching it, you're nobody!!!"

I was also thinking that Covert Affairs looks promising. Oded Fehr is nothing but a towel (and later, a strategically placed briefcase)? Yes, please! The premise also looks entertaining. Given that USA has some of the best shows on TV (Psych, Burn Notice, and Royal Pains), I'm willing to take a chance on their newest endeavor.

Day 23 - Most annoying character

I suppose, at the moment, the most annoying character to me is Rose Tyler. While I realize that most of the new Doctor Who fandom will be shocked by this, I don't care.

Rose really bothers me.

Certainly, she's a smart and capable companion and she doesn't take crap from anyone (including the Daleks), but she's not the END ALL companion. Most of her predecessors could kick her as and not break a sweat (like action girl Leela (namesake of The Other Leela) or Ace, who BEAT UP A DALEK WITH A BASEBALL BAT). And by series two she's well on her way to Mary Sue-dom, brilliantly shown with her, "ZOMG I THOUGHT I WAS SPECIAL BECAUSE WE'RE TOTAL SOULMATES!!!!!1!11!" reaction to Sarah Jane (another companion who could probably wipe the floor with Rose). This is brilliantly captured by Mimi-Na in this picture. (Also available as a wallpaper!)

Sorry, Rose. You've stepped down that dark and dreary path of Mary Sue-dom and that is a disease from which you cannot recover.
And though Donna expresses a similar desire to travel with the Doctor forever as well, she makes is perfectly clear that she has no romantic attachment to the man, she states that after all she's seen, she'll never be able to live a normal life again.

Day 22 - Favorite series finale

Yeek. This implies that I've found as series that has concluded that I liked how it ended. So, lemme see...

That leaves Inuyasha. I rather enjoyed that they kept the ending to The Final Act faithful to how it ended in the manga. I also think what it had going for it was that The Final Act on the whole stayed really faithful to the manga save about ten minutes of filler fluff that was probably done simply as fanservice.

Most series tend to annoy me when they end, not giving me a satisfactory ending (at least in my opinion - The Vision of Escaflowne, I'm looking at you).

Day 21 - Favorite ship

Errr.....wow. Um. Luke and Lorelai. House and Cuddy. Castle and Beckett. Booth and Brennan. Hodgins and Angela. Chriton and Aryun. Danny and Sam. Tamaki and Haruhi. Seriously, I don't have a favorite. I love them all. ^^;;

If you're wondering why I'm just NOW posting, our ISP crashed earlier. They also provide our cable. While the Internet is up and running again, the cable is still down. Good thing that my only plans for watching TV this evening were to start on series two of
Doctor Who
.

mercy_angel_09: (Gojyo)

Day 20 - Favorite kiss

While I'm tempted to say Luke and Lorelai's first kiss in "Raincoats and Recipes" that's actually not my favorite. My favorite, hand's down, is Booth and Brennan's kiss from "The Santa in the Slush." You can watch the extended scene here (quality isn't great, but at least you can still see it). The whole kiss wasn't in the episode - which left some viewers wondering exactly how Booth ended up with Brennan's gum. :3 Thankfully, in the season 3 DVD boxed set, they have the extended scene of the kiss. Oh yes, THAT'S how he ended up with her gum.

Day 17 - Favorite mini series

That's a tough one. The miniseries Merlin with Sam Niel as the titular character was very well done. However David Attenborough's Planet Earth and Life were also excellent. History Channel's America: The Story of Us did a great job in diving into the little known history of the United States along with some of the better known history. I honestly doubt that I would be able to pick an absolute favorite.

Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon is probably the biggest, because even though the show is something like, fifteen years old (actually, closer to twenty, now that I think about it), I still love it. I don't know if it's because I finally got to sit down and watch the whole damn thing in Japanese and have a better appreciation for the original content instead of the hack and slash North American edit or that true favorites never really die, but I realize that I'm much older than the original fanbase. However that doesn't stop me from enjoying it. And since FUNimation has confirmed that they are in the process of re-licensing it and re-dubbing (keeping it closer to its original form, so all Americanized names will be done away with, and hopefully Luna won't sound like a stodgy British nanny), I'm hopeful that we'll get ALL five seasons now, without lame ass edits.

Day 15 - Favorite female character

Seriously, just like favorite male characters, I can't just pick one. I love Lorelai Gilmore. Kate Beckett kicks ass and takes names. Aryun Sun is not one to be trifled with. Temperance Brennan is the kind of character that is unique in that she's pretty, smart, and refuses to bend to society's idea of what a woman should be. The entire female cast from Firefly is AWESOME.

I just can't pick one. It's not possible.

The remaining 15 days )

Day 14 - Favorite male character

I think I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I have a lot of affection for the Tenth Doctor. Seeley Booth makes me deliriously happy. Michael Westen is my homeboy. John Chriton, that is all. Luke Danes leik whoa. Richard Castle, yes please. Mal Renyolds - oh hell yes.

I cannot pick an absolute favorite. It's just not possible.

The remaining 16 days )

mercy_angel_09: (Witch Hunter Robin)

Day 13 - Favorite childhood show

Oh gosh, where do I begin? The Mysterious Cities of Gold, David the Gnome, Maya the Bee, My Little Koala, Maple Town.... Guess what, most of those are also children's anime. See, the addiction started EARLY. (
Pointing this out to my brother usually causes some sort of eye twitch because he refuses to believe that anime shows are legitimate cartoons. If it's not Disney, Warner Bros., or another western animation company, he's not interested. Which is usually when I tell him with perverse glee that pretty much anyone who works for Pixar is a Studio Ghibli fan.
)

I also have a lot of fond memories of watching The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Oh man, seeing most of them last year at AX was awesome, because suddenly I was fifteen years younger.

I guess this means that there are waaaaay to many for me to truly narrow it down to one show. (Oh yes, tack on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow and Sesame Street on there, too.)

Day 12 - An episode you’ve watched more than 5 times

Ummmm...pretty much any episode of Gundam Wing. Since I first watched it in high school, and then bought it all on DVD, and I've since watched the entire series at least five times all the way through since then, I've seen the whole series, and every episode, more than five times.

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you

You know, I don't know if I've ever been truly disappointed with a show. Well, no, I take that back. Seasons six and seven of Gilmore Girls left me scratching my head. While there were one or two decent episodes, most of it was spent going, "Uh, wow, that was out of character..." I suppose that what disappointed me was that I felt that the quality of the show seriously dropped. What had been a great show between a mother, daughter, their various beaux, and the whole town suddenly felt completely alien. It seemed like there was very little left of what I had loved about the show originally.

I don't know if it ever really redeemed itself by the time season seven wrapped or if I had just given up and decided to enjoy what precious little time that was left, but usually by the end of season seven, I've made my peace with it. But for a while there, yeah, I was disappointed with it.

The remaining 19 days )

And oh hey look! A tack on in the form of a REAL entry. X3

My sister-in-law graduated with a Masters in Library and Information Science yesterday, so my husband and I drove up to Seattle for dinner and her graduation ceremony. Since the ceremony got over at ten, we crashed at her apartment (all five of us, since their parents were there too, in a tiny one bedroom apartment). This morning we went to breakfast, packed some of her stuff into the two vehicles heading back to the Tri-Cities, and left about a quarter to eleven.

All in all the drive was pretty good - sure the passes suck right now because of construction and general decay caused by winter, but at least there was no snow. And raining was kept to a minimum. I also suffered being in enemy territory for this whole ordeal - but I'm really proud of her for getting her Masters.

Anyway, my brain is now mush and all I really wanna do is sit down and watch more tactics, which I currently have on loan from Netflix. And possibly see about fulfilling a request for tactics related fanart, as I'm currently stuck on how to age Kantarou by 20-30 years. (Haruka I'm not too worried about, as he is a tengu and therefore probably looks the same regardless of how old he really is. Though he might be able to age himself if he felt so inclined....hmmm...)
