My muse has a seriously case of Attention Deficit Oooh, Shiny!

She's currently been wrapped up in the Gundam Wing fandom and the Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom, leaving poor Haven high and dry.

But season three started shooting a few weeks ago, and Eric Balfour and Emily Rose are constantly tweeting photos and updates from the set. Suddenly my muse is all about finishing "Boxes in the Attic." This is a good thing, seeing as I'm down to the final chapter and the epilogue, and I started it early into season two.

I've always known how the story would go. I always knew it was about Nathan's journey, about making peace with his past, with his relationship with his father and his mother, and his developing feelings for Audrey. Obviously this became AU fairly early on as the fic developed its own path away from the series. And while a good deal of the problems have reached a decent amount of resolution within the first couple of chapters, I still feel that there are some things that he'll be sorting out in the last chapter, with the epilogue wrapping everything up. And yes, the goal is to get this finished by the time season 3 starts (which should be some time in June or July).

So! Onward!

The True Fan
OOC is blasphemy, canon is everything.

Once you fall in love with a movie, book or TV series, you are loyal like an old dog. You take fanfiction quite serious and use it as a substitute after the canon ran out.

You are probably a walking dictionary of your favourite fandom and you are picky about what you write and read. The closer to the "real thing" fanfiction is, the more you like it.

You rather explore a character in all depth, see new sides and learn more about them than creating new characters or mix up the situations they are in.

Y'know, I actually believe this. And if you feel so inclined, you can take the quiz here. You will have to create an OkCupid account to see your results but you don't have to do anything with it after that.

Or you could do more quizzes. XD

I had someone bring this to my attention (Thanks, "Raksha"!) that my journal default does not allow for anonymous posting. Seeing as some people might wander over here from fanfiction.net, I've opted to sticky this post at the top and open up the comments to everyone who wants to drop me a note.

I do want to lay down a few comment rules:

1) Being rude will not get you any sort of special attention. Wait, no, yes it will. It will get your comment deleted and you will be ignored.

2) Please use the subject line, especially if you're commenting Anonymously. As a general rule, it would also help me keep things straight and know how to best respond to your comment.

3) I will try to get back to you. It might take me a few days (I can't be immediate on everything, though I certainly try!) but I'll get there eventually. Please be patient. It'll be worth it, I promise.

4) Constructive comments are always appreciated. You've noticed typos, spelling errors, grammatical problems and/or plot issues and want to let me know? Go for it, but please remember Rule 1 (no, no, not "Never screw over your partner" or "Never let suspects stay together"). If you're rude about it I have no incentive to listen to you.

5) If you want to discuss something with me, go right ahead and start asking questions. I'll answer them to the best of my ability. The answers may not be the ones that you want, but they'll be the ones that you'll most likely need, especially if it's a question of why I chose a particular characterization, MacGuffin, etc.

I think that about sums things up now. I'm willing to answer questions and talk over choices I've made with my writing/art/etc. if you want. I like to think that I'm a fairly approachable person, amiable and polite at best and downright snarky when annoyed. I do not tolerate bullshit in any form. Be courteous and I'll be courteous in kind. If too many people abuse this, I will shut it down. Don't be the ass-hat that causes this to be shut down.

And remember, everyone, Wheaton's Law: DON'T BE A DICK.

So that addiction to Pandora I was talking about two entries ago?

Yeah, it's a fully fledged confirmed addiction. I have a Yoko Kanno station now. BECAUSE SHE IS AWESOME. The current track is off of the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. I'm in music heaven right now.

In other news, I'm writing more fanfiction using the tried and true methods of Word of the Day prompts - for Gundam Wing of all things. I'm also working on chapter 9 of Boxes in the Attic, which will hopefully conclude in chapter 10. I'm finding it a little slow going, if only because most of the major revelations were done in the first few chapters. Hm. I should have started on the ground level.

Anyway.

So yes, I'm still writing. And once Boxes in the Attic is done, I'll start some Haven WOTD fics. The selection from Wordsmith.org is pretty good, and a lot of the words fit the show so ridiculously well that the drabbles more or less write themselves. It's pretty fun, actually. So no, if you were wondering, I have not abandoned Boxes, it's just being difficult and I will finish it when I finish it.

Author's Note: It's an update! Yaaaaaaay! So, summary of November - wrote most of a novel. Plotted out the rest of this story more or less. Survived Thanksgiving with my in-laws wearing an under bust. (Long story short, I kept myself from overeating, huzzah!) Wrote a crack!fic crossover between Haven and Hetalia. (It, uh, makes sense in context.)

Anyway, only a couple of more chapters to go, and I admit, I'm a little sad to think of this ending. No, I'm not going to turn this into some sort of zombie story that should never end, but I might attempt to write something that follows it up. Maybe. We'll see. Anyway, this chapter deals with the sunroom, a room I have always wanted and hopefully, when the time comes for my husband and I to buy a house, we'll get one.

Title: Town Spirit
Fandoms: Haven, Axis Powers Hetalia
Characters: Audrey Parker, Nathan Wuornos, Great Britain, America, Canada (and Kumajirou)
Rating: K+
Words: 2,146
Warnings: Crossover, crack!fic, speculations
Spoilers: Generic for Haven seasons one and two, none of Axis Powers Hetalia.
Author's Note: So, I was thinking about Audrey's origin, and I started thinking about Hetalia and how you have the Nation-tans, and that maybe Audrey could be some sort of living embodiment of Haven. A Haven-tan, in a manner of speaking. And, uh, the idea of Audrey reacting to Kumajirou forgetting about Canada and voicing his confusion. Because talking animals are a new, even for Haven.

Anyway! Crack!fic ensued. Um, enjoy, I suppose. Oh yeah, one last note, I cleaned up Britain's mouth because I felt that he was trying to make a good impression and swearing like a drunken sailor on leave wasn't going to accomplish that, though he does call America a tosser at one point - though that's pretty tame compared to his usual. So now you can enjoy.

The good news is that I have a pretty solid outline of the future chapters so hopefully it won't take me too long to get them out.

I only had one glass of wine with dinner, I SWEAR.

Anyway, I've watched about half of the commentaries for Haven. And they are *hilarious* if you haven't seen them already. Only two of the episodes have cast in on them, "Welcome to Haven" (1.01) and "Ball and Chain" (1.05). Nothing is more hilarious than listening to Eric Balfour, Lucas Bryant and Emily Rose joke about scenes and how they interact with each other in real life. It's a little disconcerting to listen to Lucas Bryant especially, since I've never seen him in anything else and I really only know him as the taciturn Nathan Wuornos. So to hear him laughing and joking with the writers and his cast mates is surprising, but nice.

By far, the best commentary is on "Ain't No Sunshine" (1.08) because Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn are collectively twelve years old and they keep making sex jokes. It was kind of informative in terms of character, because they rather candidly discuss that Nathan is a thirty-something year old man, who hasn't always been numb, and so yes, he's had sex. It's not like Jess was his first time. Hilariously, the two were at odds as to if Jess and Nathan actually did the deed, with Sam saying that yes, they did while Jim was adamant that nothing happened beyond some heavy petting.

I still have commentaries to watch on "The Trial of Audrey Parker" (1.11), "Resurfacing" (1.12) and "Spiral" (1.13). I'm excited by the commentary on "Spiral" in particular, since I'm hoping that they'll discuss some of the choices that they made, and perhaps clear up the timeline. Maybe. Or not. They really do like to tease.

Those bastards.

Aside from that, still dealing with writer's block and trying to plot out this year's NaNo effort (remember, my NaNo LJ is here while my NaNo profile is here - feel free to follow and add). I've recently updated my NaNo LJ to give a little update about what I'm planning for this year. For those of you who will be expecting fic, I'll apologize when the latest chapter of "Boxes in the Attic" is uploaded with a note stating my intended hiatus.

I think that's about it. Things are delightfully boring around here. I'm gearing up for Halloween, though anymore that doesn't involve me hauling boxes out of the closet in the basement and then lugging them upstairs. Instead I show up before dark in costume and do what my parents ask. Pretty simple, really.
mercy_angel_09: (Nathan/Audrey Big Damn Kiss)
So I'm having some issues trying to write the latest chapter of Boxes in the Attic. They're cleaning out the dining room, which is more or less a time capsule form the day Nathan's mother died. It's maybe been dusted a handful of times since she passed, but nothing's been moved. I always sort of figured that the dining room could be used as a sort of way for Audrey to really get a feeling of what the day to day live in the Wuornos house was like when Nathan was a child. I really can't work the Audrey angle like I did previously, mostly because you can only say, "I'm Audrey, and Lucy, and who knows how many people I've been before that," before your audience is groaning at you.

And speaking of Haven, I bought the first season on Blu-ray off of Amazon. It was only $25.99, which is a fantastic deal considering that it's usually $49.99, if not more - depending on the retailer, natch. Not that I really needed it, but I really wanted it, and given the price, it would have been stupid to say no. Besides. Commentaries. I am a huge fan of them. I really like the cast commentaries because you get some insight as to how they approached certain scenes and played them a certain way, but the crew commentaries are also good. They explain jokes that you might not catch, or they point out a plot point that will become relevant in future scenes or even even episodes. Most of the "Making Of" featurettes were posted on Haven's home page, so I've already seen them. But it's good to know that I can sit down and watch them whenever I want. I don't think most of them are still up on SyFy.com or Hulu anymore.

In other news, it was time for a layout change. Yes, it's just one of the LiveJournal presets, but I'd really love to get one of Nathan and Audrey - or just of Haven in general. I think I'm going to have to request something from the community, as I've been unable to find anything on my own, and I know that my own powers with Photoshop and CSS are are practically nil. So, at some point I need to make a beg post and hope that someone feels up to the task. I know I can't be the only one in the fandom who wants a custom Haven layout.

Author's Note: "How do you make cleaning a kitchen interesting?" was the question I kept asking myself as I wrote this chapter. Frankly, writing a scene about scrubbing bathrooms or a kitchen seems boring, and trying to draw from my own experience really made it boring. (Aside from, you know, the fact that my husband cleans the kitchen...but I have to clean the bathroom so all's fair, I guess?) But I think it gave me an opportunity to explore what the relationship between Nathan and the Chief was like during Nathan's childhood.

That said, I really want to thank my readers. You guys and gals are amazing. Thank you for all of the nice reviews and all of the story alerts. (So many story alerts! Those are what really keep me going - all of the readers anticipating more!) Hopefully this chapter doesn't disappoint.

So eleven episodes into season 2 of Haven and all I know for sure is that "Holy crap, I love this series." Check any post that has "Haven" as a tag and read the gushing praise for the show. SERIOUSLY.

Anyway, I'm working on chapter six of "Boxes in the Attic," trying to flesh out the character of the Chief through Nathan's memories, which is taking the story down some interesting paths. Primarily chapter six is really starting to show the Chief as someone who could be shaken and rattled, especially if Nathan was involved. The fun part was determining just how competent the Chief was in the kitchen. I already had it in my head that he was good a grilling, but I wondered if he was a chef at all, or if the best he could do was sticking things into the microwave. I placed him somewhere in the middle - there are a few dishes that he's good a preparing, but anything that could be defined as "complex" usually resulted in setting off the smoke alarm. It's been pretty fun to imagine what the Chief was like when Nathan was a kid, as well as give life to his yet to be characterized mother.

I also have this insane urge to do a sketch of Audrey and Nathan. I suppose it would be anime-esque when all was said in done ('cause that's how my art style rolls, apparently) and they'd probably look like they came from an animated show rather than a live action one. Other insane urges include making up a fanmix. I have a ridiculously large amount of music (especially if I raid the HTPC for my husband's music) to choose from, though there are a couple of songs that stand out in particular. The first is "Into the Dark" by Melissa Etheridge, which was used in the ending sequence from "Who, What, Where, Wendigo?" and the other is "Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon. I suppose it's less of a generic Haven fanmix and more of a Nathan/Audrey fanmix. Seriously, those two need a little musical love. Musical love I'm more than happy to provide. XD

With the season finale on Friday and still no word from SyFy on if it's been picked up for season 3 (never mind that they've already announced that Eureka has been cancelled, while Warehouse 13 and Alphas have already been renewed), I'm starting to worry that it's on the chopping block. Admittedly they seemed a bit gun shy about renewing the series last year, but I had hoped that this year would have a strong enough showing to guarantee that it would easily be renewed. It seems to average around 2 million viewers, which I would consider pretty good for a Friday night. But what has me bothered is that the ratings were consistent for the first and second seasons. While the second season saw a ratings increase, it isn't by a wide enough margin to ensure automatic renewal. They must be watching and waiting for international ratings to determine if the series will get a third season. If it doesn't it's seriously going to suck because according to Eric Balfour, there's *another* serious cliff hanger at the end of "Sins of the Fathers." Because apparently the cliff hanger at the end of "Spiral" was too tame. ::eyeroll:: Actually, that's pure conjecture. Honestly, it's the best way to keep an audience hooked so they'll tune in for the season premier is to leave them wanting resolution to some big, unanswered question raised in the season finale.

In the meantime, I'll amuse myself by writing and coming up with a fanmix for Nathan and Audrey that may or may not make it to the communities. ^^;;

Now, I'm still have unexplored ideas that I want to work with, and I'm certain I can get a few more chapters from that. But to get through all of the rooms in the house? I may gloss over cleaning the bathrooms. It may prove more entertaining to let you all imagine what the Chief's bathroom looks like. I imagine it looks like my ex-boyfriends - you'd need a biohazard suit to go near it. Anyway, I'm going give this the old college try and see this out to the end, mostly because I feel that there is something about the relationship between Nathan and Audrey can be strengthened by exploring their pasts, together. Author's Note: Okay, it's not Monday, but I count Tuesday morning as "Monday-ish." I was wiped after this weekend and it took me a bit longer to recover than I had originally anticipated. But the chapter is complete, and let me just say that I really like the sudden turn it took. I hadn't really planned on it going the route it eventually did, but I liked it enough and I felt that it really helped move things along. Also, this takes place after "Love Machine" but before "Sparks and Recreation" and let's just pretend Chris never asked Audrey out. (To quote Adam Savage, "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" I also quote Joss Whedon: "There's a time and a place for everything; I believe it's called fan fiction.")

I've been doing some planning regarding each room, which hopefully means that I won't seize up half way through and leave everyone who has added this story to their alerts hanging. I make no promises, though. A few things to keep in mind - I picked a name for Nathan's mother on a whim, and it just seemed to fit. I have no idea if anyone else has guesses about her name (or if it's even been mentioned on the show - though I'm sure I would have caught it, I've seen every episode at least twice). Anyway, moving on. I wanted her to have a voice and provide some exposition regarding Nathan's mysterious past, which is complete conjecture and will probably be Jossed in coming seasons.

The goal is to write a chapter for each room in the house (storage room, four bedroom, two bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, enclosed porch, and a basement). Everyone, please send my muse good juju - she has a tendency to be a bit...well...flighty. The bitch. I'm hoping that I don't run out of steam and actually finish this.
