Urban fantasy is fantasy in an urban environment. Seriously, there's no better way to explain it.

The series deals with were-wolves, vampires and the fae, but the protagonist Mercy Thompson (see my icon, that's her from an upcoming book cover) has Native American ancestry so she's a skin walker - she can shift into a coyote at will.

The setting is present day (well, I think they're still back in 2007, but that's only because there are only a few months (and sometimes weeks) between books, and I think the first one came out in '06) in the bustling metropolis I call home. (Except it's not really a bustling metropolis. I think the combined populations of Pasco, Kennewick (yes, as in Kennewick Man), Richland, West Richland and for grins and giggles lest throw in Finley, is probably a few thousand over 100,000.)
