I feel the same way about horror. First off, I was a big chicken as a kid and plus I never thought it was fun to have a movie scare you. Granted, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good story, but I'm not a huge fan of the genre. I did read King's guide to writing stories and he does have a lot of good advice in it. While you like his stories or not, you have to admit he knows his work and how to do it well.
