Oh hai ell jay...canz u halp mii plz?

Okay, stupid spelling over with.

For now.

Anyway, as some of you are aware, I'm in a costuming group.  I've spent the last two and a half weeks constructing my Care Bear loli and my Steampunk outfit.  (I'm currently making a cheap-ass petticoat out of tulle, netting and a cheap slip from Target for both costumes.)

ANYWAY the next big costume event is my Goddess and my My Little Pony.

My MLP is taken care of.  I just have to buy pants and make a jacket.  I'm probably going to buy arm warmers as well.  What I need help with is my goddess.  Kind of.  I am going to be Athena.  I have a chestplate in the making (a cheap tee shirt and duct-tape currently, will be covered with copper colored vinyl and painted on), I'll probably see if I can order a Greco-Roman helm online, I have what are essentially gladiator sandals, but what I'm having issues with is the kind of fabric to use.  AND COLOR.  The pattern I'm using is a tunic-style dress and it will be white.  But I do need to make a psudo-blouse that will be made of colored fabric that will be worn under the chestplate.

So my question to my LJ friends is:

When you think of Athena, what color do you think of?

Also, any fabric suggestions will be welcome.  Granted you know your different types of fabrics.  :3

Please and thank you!

That's right - they don't! After all, Iris, goddess of the rainbow had a iridescent gown that sparkled like the rainbow itself, and there are no natural dyes in that for sure! ^_^

But I understand what you mean. I have a degree in history and there's nothing that irks me more than historical inaccuracies in popular culture.

I would say a light blue if you go with blue or a deep blood red or raspberry red. Since you are using the bronze color I think a deep raspberry red would look best. I have a real good eye for color and color combos. And to me coppers, bronzes and golds look good with warm colors while silvers and platinum look good with cool colors.

See, I was thinking a deep sapphire blue or a navy blue, because red is often associated Ares. And while Athena is a goddess of war, she's not THE goddess of war, she often primarily associated with wisdom and the color often associated with wisdom is blue.
