Real Life!!

Not much to say, except that I'm a little relieved that I'm not actually filling out a meme today. :3

For what it's worth, I'm going to give a couple of links about fandom wank. The first link the long version, the second one is more concise. Basically what it boils down to is the ability to give and receive criticism in a potentially volatile situation. The wank in question comes from the Supernatural community, where an author wrote a story using post-earthquake Haiti for a backdrop. Unfortunate Implications abounded when it turned out to have some racist undertones, that while probably not intentional, were there and offended enough people that the author was called on it. Then the author got offended because people called her on it.

Long story short, it all came down to the tone in which the stories were written and the comments given. We may not mean to offend, but words do have an unnatural power to hurt more than any physical pain. We need to be concious of the tone we use to write with, because it DOES matter. Even if we don't mean to offend, we can do just that without realizing it or meaning to. Sadly, I've seen enough wank first hand when someone's online tone wasn't meant to offend and yet the person it was directed at took it as a personal attack. So yeah...

In better news, [livejournal.com profile] forgotten_relic is coming for a visit, so this afternoon will be spent in the guest room trying to get things cleaned up so she has a place to crash. Even though she says that she doesn't mind sleeping on the couch, there's no point in having her crash on the couch when there is a perfectly good bed she can sleep in. She's also here if she wants to join [livejournal.com profile] travellyr's BPAL party. I'm attending, of course, with computer in tow as I have my Excel spread sheet with my list of wants on it.

Further more, I've got an idea for a Mercy Thompson fanfic. Now whether or not I actually write it will come down to interest. If enough people are interested I'll write it and post it, otherwise I'll just push it from my brain and move on to other things.

Anyway, I should probably get going. Since I'm up and showered, I really have no reason not to get started on the things I need to do today.

Wasn't sure you'd be interested. ^^

My only fear is that some idiot online will start in with the whole, "How the heck do you know anything about this? Have you done any sort of research about the Tri-Cities?" To which I can answer with, "More than you'll ever know," but it's still a pain in the butt when the critics are causing wank just because they can.

Ignore their petty jealousies! I think you'd be great at writing. Your real life posts are interesting and easy to read (meaning clear and not weird grammatically or spelling). I'd look forward to fanfic from you. : )
