Shamelessly swiped from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny.

Comment to this post saying "FIVE!" and I will pick five things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random.

Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself, hopefully for the rest of eternity!

I'm a fan of my bed.

It's big. It's cozy, especially when my husband isn't hogging the covers.

Anyway.

I stayed up late with [livejournal.com profile] forgotten_relic, finally turning in at 1:30 this morning. I managed to pull myself out of bed at just after nine, grabbed my Aperture mug filled with coffee (the cake may be a lie, but the coffee isn't), and settled on the couch to surf teh interbuttz. I made sure to post on my brother's Facebook wall for his birthday (he's 26 today), and yesterday most of the family got together to celebrate my grandpa's birthday a day early. (Yes, my brother and our maternal grandpa have the same birthday. It's a family thing, apparently, to share a birthday with another family member.)

Also, today, at least according to LJ, is [livejournal.com profile] faithchan's birthday, so a very happy birthday to her! I hope it's wonderful!

Tomorrow is my husband's birthday, but we're going out to dinner tonight because we figured trying to do it tomorrow would be too hectic. Since he doesn't want a cake, I'm making a blueberry pie (unless he wants a different kind of pie...I should probably check with him) instead. This is going to be my first attempt at making crusts from scratch, which could go horribly, horribly wrong. Or it could just right and I get a perfect, flaky crust.

If everything turns out, tomorrow the "Food Porn" album on Facebook will have a few new additions. (Goober that he is, he's not allowing me to play with my cake decorating supplies. So he'll probably end up with slits in the crust in the shape of a cake because that's how I roll.)

Anyway, I'm more or less just killing time until the Pro-Bowl starts and I'll watch some of that before we go out for dinner. Seattle went from having one person selected to five when four other people dropped out due to either illness or injury. As it stands the Seahawks did okay this past season and I really feel that they're on the right track to give the 49ers a run for the money next season.

I think that sums up everything for me at the moment. Life's been pretty quiet around here. It's been warm (today it's in the high fifties) and kind of wet, but it's always possible that we'll get hit with another snowstorm. I would not be against that, especially since I'm officially off of crutches I can actually go play in it. (Though first I should consider hitting up either Big 5 or REI to find snow pants. Wet jeans suck.)
mercy_angel_09: (Seattle Seahawks)
Actually it's a Shock Top Belgian White - but since I usually don't drink beer, this is a big deal.

So the Seahawks are playing the Rams on Monday Night Football, and here's an interesting stat - apparently the Seahawks have the most shutouts on MNF, period. With three, but apparently shutouts on MNF are rare. Or something.

Anyway, things are pretty chill around here. I still need to get at least one more gift for my husband for Christmas, as we generally set a limit of spending $100 on each other. That said, we usually spend no more than $20 per family member, though if we spend less on one person, we can spend more on another. (For example, I spent roughly ten dollars on my baby brother, so I didn't feel terrible about spending $30 on my baby sister.) I still have no idea what to get my parents and my mother has yet to call me back. Well, whatever it is I hope to God that I don't have to order it online. Augh.

Since I got stuff for work done today (still has to be sent out, but I can do that tomorrow), I can spend the rest of the week trying to determine what to get, or just ask my mother to send me a text with ideas. I'm also getting together with [livejournal.com profile] desertkitsune to watch the PNB's The Nutcracker - the theatrical release they did back in 1986. I figure this is the best option as she's never seen a production of The Nutcracker, and we missed the Mid-Columbia Ballet production. After that we'll watch the Christmas episode of Haven and I might have her watch selected portions of A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride. We'll see. I kind of want to have her watch the Christmas episode of Eureka because it's hilariously awesome.

Anyway, methinks its time to watch me some moar foozball.

Go Seahawks!!

I'm sure I have mentioned the fact that my husband and I have a spare bedroom. It's primary function is crash space for friends who go out drinking with us and can't drive home or hosting out of town visitors. It's secondary function is storage for stuff that doesn't go anywhere else. It currently hosts a plethora of costumes and my dress maker's dummy. To the point where you can't see the bed.

I decided that I should recover it, especially if [livejournal.com profile] forgotten_relic is going to be visiting soon and need crash space. I've almost unearthed the bed, which included finally putting Sheena away after her trip to Sakura-con (I'll post a photo or two eventually), finally putting the final parts of the My Little Pony away (the pants and jacket had been put away almost immediately following con; the tail, shirt and wig were an entirely different matter), and hanging the saree. But! Now that most costumes and pieces are put away, I can start looking forward to 1) sewing the costume for Halloween (which will eventually double as my Sunako from The Wallflower) and 2) sewing a new outfit for Sophia, who is going to look like a total dandy compared to the rest of the crew of the H.M.S. Persephone.

Since I bought an under bust at Sakura-con, I see no point in letting it go to waste - I'm going to incorporate it into Sophia's new costume. This also means that I'm changing her color scheme to red and black, which include red and black boots, a dress made out of black suiting (if I can find black suiting with red pinstripes even better) with red accents. I also need to get a small steampunk pistol for her to carry (I want to put it in her garter, but it might end up in her boot or hidden under her bustle) and well a pair of goggles. Cooking with oil on an airship? She's going to need them! I should also make her an apron, but that may be her secondary costume. She may have a couple - one for when she first gets on the boat and the second being after she's been on board a while. Will most likely incorporate pants.

I'm hoping to make it to Steamcon, which is why I want to try and get Sophia done this summer. Also, I want to get Sunako done as soon as possible. I was toying with the idea of making period appropriate underthings - but I might just settle for making a pair of bloomers and wearing my full Victorian corset under the dress. Even if the corset is bright blue, 1) the satin is thick enough and 2) there are enough layers that theoretically it shouldn't bleed through the rest of the costume. (I hope. After this entry is posted I will probably end up in the guest room with the fabric for Sunako's dress and the corset testing just how badly it'll bleed through.)

Anyway, I should probably try again to recover the guest room. It's really a shame that I let it get as bad as it does.

Meme and questions from [livejournal.com profile] earthstar_moon.

▸ Comment with "PIERCE THE HEAVENS!"
▸ I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
▸ Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
▸ Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1. What are your favorite kind of books?

I love, love, love, historical romances. Heck, I love novels that were written a couple of hundred years ago, even. Currently re-reading Anne of Green Gables for the umpteenth time if that's any indication of my reading habits. Not to say that I haven't or don't enjoy contemporary novels, because I do. Usually of the trashy romance or mystery variety. But my weakness will always be historical romances.

2. How did you meet your husband?

Hubby and I met in eighth grade science. I was talking to another classmate, needed another opinion, asked him, and the rest is history. Admittedly we didn't start dating until the end of our junior year of high school (well, it wasn't official official until a few weeks before we started our senior year), but we were really close friends. We continued dating through the first couple of years of college before distance took its toll and we broke up. But after graduation we found each other again, and less than a month after we got back together, we decided that we should get married.

3. Do you have any siblings?

I am in the middle of seven. Only two are full-blooded siblings, though. My dad had two kids from his first marriage when he married my mom - my older brother and my oldest sister. I then have one older sister (full blood) and a younger brother (full blood). I'm smack dab in the middle of them. After my parents split, my mom remarried and had two more kids - a younger sister and my youngest brother.

4. What is your favorite kind of animal?

I am very much a cat person.

5. Do you think you want any kids?

My husband and I have agreed that kids would be nice - in about two or three years. We're rather enjoying our time as just a married couple. It allows us freedom to just pick up and go if we suddenly decide we want to go to the coast one weekend.

Sorry I forgot this yesterday - I was a bit busy. ^^

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] sistaofpeace1! Hope it was wonderful!!

I've been dealing with the sinus headache from hell since last Wednesday, when I woke up with a raging sore throat which morphed into the Head Cold From Hell. Even when I was clogged and miserable on St. Patrick's Day I still mustered energy to make corned beef, steamed cabbage, mashed potatoes and soda bread. After that, I was lucky if I could get off the couch.

After being a vegetable all weekend, I'm finally feeling a bit better. I managed to do laundry today while binging on copious amounts of Farscape followed by finally getting to watch the fourth episode of the Tethe'alla arc of the Tales of Symphonia anime. Of course I've about reached my limit. I don't think I'll be doing anything exciting for the rest of the night. I can't say that I feel much like cooking.

Anyway, my head is still congested and now it's moved into my chest. I've been occasionally coughing up phlegm, but the plus side is that I'm blowing my nose less frequently. My nose appreciates this as it is now dry and chapped, despite my best efforts to keep it moisturized with frequent applications of lotion.

I suppose the worst part of all this is that now my husband thinks he's coming down with whatever crud I have. Considering that his boss today authorized as much overtime as necessary to get certain tasks done, taking time off is not in his plans. Of course knowing him, he'll be over it in a couple of days. According to [livejournal.com profile] sideshow_ericka, this crud has to run its course, as her doctor assured her that he couldn't give her anything aside some products to help her deal with her symptoms.

Alas.

I guess it's off to find dinner now.

I don't have anything particularly interesting to write about today. We had the last Bollywood night before Maria gets married last night, watching the Bollywood equivalent of the the Peter Sellers film After the Fox. It was...interesting. Not great, but not horrible either.

We chowed down on curry, rice and flat bread, watched the movie, and then indulged in Hawaiian Punch flavored jelly beans. When the movie was done we talked perfume, fairy tales and cosplay.

Nothing overly exciting.

When I came home I found my husbands books in disarray, as usual, with Ender's Shadow being in the bathroom. My guess was that he was sore after exercising and had taken a soak in the tub in hopes of alleviating some of that pain. The shower curtain was drawn back and his towel was still damp. Seems like the most logical answer. I refuse to acknowledge option two.

A nice move? More like a knee-jerk nervous reaction, an unconcious gesture to show that I was totally terrified and out of my element. )

See, that winter storm watch that all of Washington is under right now is still in effect. I doesn't end until 10 PM tonight. I've only seen a handful of snowflakes all day, while I was eating breakfast. Nearly everywhere around us is getting snow, but apparently the Tri-Shitties is getting nil. Knowing us, we'll get rain if we get anything at all.

Nothing huge to report today - my husband is taking the Honda is to the dealership today to have the headlight wiring inspected as per the recall notice, and if it's cheap, an alignment job done. As such, he's probably taking his lunch at twelve-thirty instead of eleven-thirty, so he can get done with lunch and then drive the Honda to the dealership, with me following him the whole way. Once the Fit is dropped off, I'll drive him back to work, pick him up when work is done, and then drive over to pick up the Honda when everything is done. (Which reminds me, [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny, did you get a recall notice on your Fit? I'm just wondering how widespread it is, as the letter said it was on the 07-08 models.)

Aside from that I was going to be making chili for dinner tonight. Trent had suggested going out, but I reminded him that the last Bollywood Movie Night before Maria moves was on Friday and while I could make the chili tomorrow, he'd be the only one eating it. We decided that the chili would be good for tonight (since snow or no snow, it's still freakin' cold outside), and that he could get into the leftovers from last night's split pea soup or the chili while I was having dinner with the girls tomorrow. Thankfully this can be done in the crock pot, and I'm just waiting on the cutting boards to be cleaned before I start the full prep.

I suppose I should probably try find lunch - I'm debating a salad against a sandwich. Both options are good, but I don't know which one I want more.

So the Seahawks lost to the Da Bears today, which isn't really that surprising. Part of it had to do with the loss of tight end John Carlson in the first quarter, leaving only backup tight end Cameron Morrah in his place - and while Morrah's done some good this season, most of the practiced plays were with Carlson. Then safety Marcus Trufant was also injured in the third quarter and all things just sort of went to hell in a hand basket after that.

Despite that, though, they managed a late rally to close the point gap to eleven, when it HAD been a shut out at 28-0. Anyway, we pulled off a field goal in the third and then three touchdowns in the fourth to at least make it look semi-respectable. Unfortunately, both Carlson and Trufant are in Chicago with concussions are will not me moved until the local medical staff are confident that they can be moved without risking further injury.

Aside from that today has followed the usual routine of cleaning. After the loss I diligently scrubbed the bathroom and did laundry. My husband has spent the last couple of hours playing Epic Mickey and I've been dinking around on the Interwebz. I really should have worked on fine tuning the sketch of my burlesque Sailor Venus, but I haven't really felt like it.

Which brings me to another point. My cosplay group would rather enjoy doing the Sailor Senshi as burlesque performers, and if we do it, I was nominated to be Sailor Venus because, well, for starters I'm not a proper LDS woman with garments and not afraid to show a little skin and two, I'm curvy. And because Sailor Venus is going to be the one front and center (because let's face it, she is one big hoochie mama), I was the ideal candidate. (Aforementioned reasons are also why I get to be Wonder Woman if/when we do super heroines.)

On Tuesday I'm going to go and sit over at [livejournal.com profile] travellyr's place and nag her to clean, all while picking at my actual job and probably reading. I might even take a sketch book and try and sketch out a couple of ideas for the Sailor Moon Burlesque thing. Maybe. Probably not, now that I think about it. I'll probably poke at my work and read the whole time. XD

Got a Christmas card from [livejournal.com profile] lukecanwaltz88 today! *does the Snoopy dance* Thanks a bunch, hon! I don't think I have enough time to send you a Christmas card in return, but I'll try to shoot you a New Year's card.

Secondly, finished Slayers NEXT while finishing up my present wrapping this afternoon. I noticed at the end of the series they starting pairing everyone off, including canon foreigners Martina and Zangulus - the latter being paired together. Much to my amusement. I'll probably start in on Slayers Try here before too much longer. I have no idea what to expect, as from Try on I haven't seen any episodes. But I'm really enjoying the series. Count me as one of the faithfully converted.

Anyway, real life marches on. My dad rolls into town in less than a week, my mom and her mom have their birthday on Sunday and I think I need to deep clean the apartment one more time on the off chance that my dad is, in fact, going to stay here. I've also nearly completed the high school scrapbook. I only have a handful of pictures from freshman and sophomore year, especially since I didn't get my first camera until the end of my freshman year. I have quite a few pictures from junior and senior year, but they're darn near all the same. It is kind of fun going though them, though. So many memories. Not all of them pleasant, but there's nothing to be gained by forgetting them.
