So Nintendo, like most major developers, broadcasted their E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo, held at the LACC) presentation online in real time. Since it started at nine, and oh hey, I'm just sitting down for my morning cup of coffee, I tuned in.

First of all, this is the 25th Anniversary of the Legend of Zelda. And so the presentation kicked off with a clip show of all of the Zelda titles to date (including the yet to be officially launched Ocarina of Time 3DS and Skyward Sword) set to a live orchestra. HOLY. SHIT.

They then announced that since it's the 25th Anniversary, that today on the 3DS you can download Link's Awakening for the virtual console, that later this year Four Swords Adventure would be FREE on the DSi, and then Skyward Sword would officially launch this holiday season.

Cue me fangasaming into my coffee and praying I would snork it all over my computer. Furthermore, they showed NEW (at least to me) footage from Skyward Sword, including footage of a girl who could quite possibly be the very first Princess Zelda. She's gorgeous, by the way.

Of course I'm also stupid excited about future 3DS titles (further proof that I might actually need one, damn it), from Kid Icarus to Luigi's Mansion 2, and of course, the first official look at the new console, Wii U. Sure the name might sound silly, but it looks AMAZING. Hi-Def capabilities, a controller that doubles as a tablet, personal screen, digital board game (demoed with Othello), and God knows what else, and excellent on-line capabilities? OH GOD I WANT ONE SO BAD LEIK WHOA.

Naturally I'm going to start saving up for a 3DS (expensive, but I really, really, really, really want to be able to play Ocarina of Time 3DS and Kid Icarus and Mario Kart and...). Which may mean fifty dollars a month from each paycheck. I am okay with this because I really want one. (As if it weren't painfully obvious, right?)

Anyway, getting together with [livejournal.com profile] desertkitsune this afternoon and I gotta get ready. Ta!

On our way to Sakura-con back in April, [livejournal.com profile] sideshow_ericka asked if I had ever heard the song "G33k & G4m3r Girls" by Team Unicorn. I shook my head, because despite seeing it plastered all over my Twitter feed in the previous weeks, I had never felt the urge to actually click the link to watch the video. E just gave me "the look" which roughly constitutes a glare mixed with "What the hell is wrong with you?"

She grabbed her iPod and brought the song up as we were driving along. She didn't even sing along so I could hear the words.

Mind=blown

Seriously, how did I not know about this song?! Admittedly, it's a parody on the idea that geek and gamer girls are so rare they're basically the real world equivalent of unicorns, but that doesn't change the fact that it's 1) absolutely fucking hilarious and 2) fits most of my fandoms.

Music video and lyrics behind the cut!! )

I showed this to my husband a few nights ago and he couldn't stop laughing. "Oh my God," he wheezed at me, "it's you! It's so totally you!" He then asked if there was somewhere he could get the song. Lucky for him, I had recently downloaded it. I put it on his flash drive so he could crank it in his car (gotta love a stereo system that supports USB connectivity, right?). And now every time he hears Katy Perry's "California Gurls" he starts singing the words to "G33k & G4m3r Girls" instead.

Meme from [livejournal.com profile] earthstar_moon:

1. Comment with "DON'T SAY GOOD-BYE!"
2. I will give a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters and your thoughts on each.

1) Tamaki Suoh - Ouran High School Host Club: Oh Tamaki-kun, you're just precious. No. Really. He's a total moron, truth be told, but he's so genuinely sweet that you can't help but think of him like a humanoid golden retriever.

2) Tohru Honda - Fruits Basket: She's a special brand of love that can defrost even the coldest of hearts. Like Tamaki, she's genuinely sweet, but behind her kind smile is a seriously broken girl. Thankfully, for all the love she gives she seems to inspire it in return.

3) TARDIS - Doctor Who: Don't tell me the TARDIS isn't a character. She is! She stole a Time Lord (or the Time Lord stole her, we're not sure) so she could see the universe! She knows the Doctor's moods and knows where he should be even when he's not entirely sure where he should be. She will always be his sexy thing.

4) Tenebrae - Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World: In a world of either super cheerful determinators or really angsty emo heroes and villans, we got Tenebrae, All Mighty Snarker and Centurion of Darkness. A welcome breath of fresh air as he snarked and sniped about EVERYTHING.

5) Trowa - Gundam Wing: I can't even pinpoint why I love him. Just everything about his character, the hidden depths that we're teased with but rarely see is probably the main reason, though. That, and I thoroughly approve of his use of MORE DAKKA to get the job done. One Macross Missile Massacre coming up!

That said, I really had to wrack my brain to come up with answers for this, as Tamaki and Tohru were the only ones who came to mind. The rest required sifting through my different fandoms to find characters who qualified. Apparently there aren't a lot of characters whose names start with the letter T in my fandoms. Hmmm.

Yesterday's BPAL scent was Oneiroi from the Somnium collection. It smells pretty good, though the gardenia is a little overpowering at first. But it does mellow quite nicely on me, so it's one of those things that I'm happy to get as an Imps Ear and will probably use sparingly. The inspiration, of course, comes from the Oneiroi, the Greek dream deities. (Those of you on my F-list who read Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters series are familiar with this particular subset of gods, known in the books as the Dream-Hunters.) The scent is clean and fresh (and to me sometimes overwhelmingly gardenia), which seems sort of counter-intuitive as to how it's described on the web site.

Also, I'm going to write a bit about video games. :) Because I can.

In which I ramble about video games. I can't promise that it makes any sense, though. )

Errr...I think that's enough rambling for now. I really should make those deviled eggs. ^^;;

But I love the video games and could spend all day talking about them!!
mercy_angel_09: (Link iPod)
So a week ago I tweeted, "Seriously, why is video game music almost always ridiculously good?"

Since Twitter has been doing some updating, you can now check to see who has mentioned you in their Tweets with relative ease (though I have no idea how it was before the overhaul). I had two people I don't know and have never met respond.

One responded with, "Because you're going to be listening to it over and over and over and over and over... mediocrity is NOT an option."

Another with, "Because its authors don't usually try to go by the "traditional" music standards, maybe?"

Not that they have followed me, but I think it's interesting to see that not only are completely strangers reading my Tweets, but replying to them. Admittedly, musing about video game music seems sort of mundane, but the fandom is out there. I can't say that I've been bold enough to Tweet to someone I don't know, though. Ah well.

Social networking and all that.

I often think I have profound thoughts. I write them down and then realize they are, at best, silly and vaguely entertaining and why the hell I thought they were profound I have no idea.

Anyway, today is a beautiful day here in the Tri-Cities. And by beautiful I mean it's overcast, in the high sixties, and raining. (Please note all intended sarcasm.) Which I suppose isn't all bad, but I certainly wasn't planning on it being so cool out today. Windows are open to capitalize on the fact that it's cool out while I'm wearing jeans, long sleeves and sneakers. Suddenly, fall!

And now, a meme from my buddy Shaun. )

I think that's everything. New Bones on tonight, but besides that, there's not much else going on. Dinner is in the crock pot and I'm wondering what I'm going to do the rest of the afternoon, especially since it's raining out. I suppose I could play Animal Crossing: City Folk some more, especially since I haven't played since Sunday or Monday. I've finally caught all of fish, and I'm working on the bugs - but the Tarantula and the Hercules beetle are past season, and I'm having a hell of time trying to capture the Giant Petaltail (it's a type of dragonfly) and the Scorpion. But it certainly won't hurt to get in there and water the flowers, chat with the fellow villagers and see what's going on in town.

Seriously. what else am I going to do?
mercy_angel_09: (Shigure WTF)
I'm watching my husband play
Raving Rabbids Go Home!
and in particular, the "Apocalypse Cow" chapter. I have seen the end of the world. It says, "Moo!"

In any case, the game is cracktastically delicious, as I watch what can only be considered acts of terror in an airport. Two alien rabbits are running around in underwear (one in boxer briefs, the other a lacy red thong), pushing a shopping cart, and collecting as much junk as they can so they can go to the moon.

UbiSoft, based out of France and French Canada, as an off-beat sense of humor. It really can only be defined as "French." The Rabbids are rude, vulgar and hilarious - they're like Eric Cartman with red eyes and rabbit ears. The games, at least the first three, were made up of multi-player mini-games which are ridiculously fun when played with three or more people. Or just three or more people in the room.
Rabbids Go Home!
is a single player adventure that rolls, pardon the pun, like
Katamari Damacy
. But I don't think that you can beat it up Santa Claus in
Katamari Damacy
, though.

It is truly something that has to be witnessed to be understood.

In all other fronts, life is good. The mountain of laundry that had taken over the master bedroom has been reduced to a pile of delicates that will be washed tomorrow when the drying rack is cleared of its present drying load.

mercy_angel_09: (Meeko compass)
Today is the Winter Solstice (Yule, for those who celebrate it), and while I'm wondering if there's anything going on at our local (okay, it's not local, it's about a two or so hour drive from where I live) Stonehenge, I seriously doubt it because it's raining.

This also happens to be my brother's last day in town, so I went over to my mom's house around lunchtime and hand brunch with them (Swedish pancakes and sausage) before playing a few multiplayer games of
Diddy Kong Racing DS
and
Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
I also watched my brother play a few different songs in the
Beatles Rock Band
(hence the title of this entry). Over all, it was nice to spend time with them, because I hardly ever see them. Now, I understand that with my brother, he lives in Miami. It's not like it's easy to see him. However my mom, youngest brother and younger sister live about a mile from my apartment and I still only manage to see them about once a month. Twice a month during the holiday season. Strangely enough, my step-dad often tells me that they never see me...but then he complains when I do show up to see them. Go figure.

Anyway, I'm finally done with my Christmas shopping. The last gift is currently hiding in my car and will be wrapped either really late tonight (after the person it is intended for goes to bed) or tomorrow afternoon. I also need to get going on [livejournal.com profile] chaosblue's garters. The one that will be tossed will be fantastically tacky and weighted down so it will cause pain upon impact while the one that she'll keep will be very pretty. Mwahahahaha.

I'm more or less ready for the holidays. I just have to survive the rest of the week.

First of all, meme from [livejournal.com profile] travellyr

Comment and I will comment back with a picture of the fictional character that most reminds me of you. Then post the same in your journal.

Secondly, today it's actually supposed to snow. The system was supposed to hit early this morning, but it's moving slower than anticipated so now it's going to hit this afternoon. Because there was supposed to be snow on the ground this morning, my husband and I went grocery shopping at eleven thirty last night so we could avoid driving in the snow this morning. Of course by doing so, we made sure that it wouldn't snow this morning.

At any rate we're gonna take it easy today. Play a few video games, kick back and relax, and wait to see if my brother is actually going to make it over tonight. It's entirely possible that he won't arrive until tomorrow afternoon. We'll see, and we'll also see if he drives me crazy in the short amount of time that he'll be here.

In other, more random news, my husband and I have a pot of water on the stove simmering, keeping the air in my apartment humid. Since it's been so cold with the heater going at full, the air had seriously dried everything out. My skin, my lips (which actually split because of it), and everything else. At any rate, it's noticeably more humid in my apartment, if the way my sinuses are draining is any indication. X3

Meh...I should probably go and take a shower. Because even though I don't need to go anywhere today, I should probably get myself clean if only because my hair is too greasy for my own like.

mercy_angel_09: (Shigure WTF)
First of all, a meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] lukecanwaltz88

Rules:
- Bold all of the following TV shows which you've ever seen 3 or more episodes of in your lifetime.
- Italicize a show if you're positive you've seen every episode of it.

Oh God, I really need to find more productive ways to spend my time. )

In other news, I was getting started on the fabric for the dress for [livejournal.com profile] chaosblue when I realized that the flimsy nature of the fabric meant that in order to get it into a position so that I could adequately cut it, I need another set of hands. Guess what hubby gets to help me with later. ^_^

I also finished Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn today. Since I couldn't do what I had originally planned (cut out the pieces for the dress) I had to settle with doing something else instead. I figured that by beating the game, I could then focus on sewing and not have that little voice whispering in my ear, "Finish the game! Finish the game!" Game finished, extra features unlocked (not everything, though, still have some music to get) and I can now replay at my leisure, and not have to worry about unlocking stuff. Ha.

Further more, I'm excited at the prospect of making some new LJ icons. First and foremost, I want to make an icon of Meeko (from Pocahontas) slamming the compass against the rock with the caption "Work, damn you!" I also want to make a few Fire Emblem icons - mainly of my boys, Ike, Haar, Tibarn, Ranulf, Shinon and Soren (the last two because they're both so bitchy I love them to pieces because of it), and my girls, Nailah and Titania. Nailah was a one wolf wrecking crew (and FAST so she was able to dodge a LOT of attacks) and Titania was a tank on a horse. I actually managed to cap her stats. XD

I've also come the rather amusing realization that most people dislike Micaiah, referring to her as one of the most useless lords EVAR (and giving her the nickname Failcaiah). While I understand the sentiment (she's a mage/sage/priestess, so her HP and other stats end to be crap) I do know that with a little bit of work (and a lot of bonus experience points) she can actually become very powerful. Of course, it really doesn't help that she is auto-promoted, meaning you can't force class changes, leaving her capped out in first or second tier until the story decides to bump her up. Bastards. Of course Ike is the same way - but at least Ike's got strength, speed and HP to spare so he can actually take the damn abuse that a game lord has to put up with. (For the record, the "hero" of the Fire Emblem games are known as Lords, often because they are of nobility - princes, kings, or lords and occasionally queens or princesses. Ike is the only lord in Fire Emblem's history to not be of noble birth.) Anyway, for all of Micaiah's Mary Sue tendencies and general fail, I don't feel that she's as bad as the rest of the fandom makes her out to be, but of course only one person on my F-list even known what I'm babbling about here, so Megan, if you want to sound off, go right ahead. I'd love to know what you think.

I think that about wraps up my thoughts for the day. I'm gearing up for the holidays, and all in all trying to keep warm because it decided that it's going to be BFC outside. Oh yeah, winter has officially started. We're even supposed to have snow this weekend.
