The Cougs won the Apple Cup.

In overtime.

JFC I can't take this anymore.

Go Giants! as I am loathe to see the Patriots win another Super Bowl in just ten years. I'm really hoping for a repeat of Super Bowl XLII

Actually it's a Shock Top Belgian White - but since I usually don't drink beer, this is a big deal.

So the Seahawks are playing the Rams on Monday Night Football, and here's an interesting stat - apparently the Seahawks have the most shutouts on MNF, period. With three, but apparently shutouts on MNF are rare. Or something.

Anyway, things are pretty chill around here. I still need to get at least one more gift for my husband for Christmas, as we generally set a limit of spending $100 on each other. That said, we usually spend no more than $20 per family member, though if we spend less on one person, we can spend more on another. (For example, I spent roughly ten dollars on my baby brother, so I didn't feel terrible about spending $30 on my baby sister.) I still have no idea what to get my parents and my mother has yet to call me back. Well, whatever it is I hope to God that I don't have to order it online. Augh.

Since I got stuff for work done today (still has to be sent out, but I can do that tomorrow), I can spend the rest of the week trying to determine what to get, or just ask my mother to send me a text with ideas. I'm also getting together with [livejournal.com profile] desertkitsune to watch the PNB's The Nutcracker - the theatrical release they did back in 1986. I figure this is the best option as she's never seen a production of The Nutcracker, and we missed the Mid-Columbia Ballet production. After that we'll watch the Christmas episode of Haven and I might have her watch selected portions of A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride. We'll see. I kind of want to have her watch the Christmas episode of Eureka because it's hilariously awesome.

Anyway, methinks its time to watch me some moar foozball.

Go Seahawks!!

Getting myself past the half-way point in NaNoWriMo was not the big accomplishment for me this weekend. Admittedly, it was nice to know that I had gotten past the 25k point and was almost four days ahead. But what really made my weekend was football.

It started on Saturday night with WSU beating ASU at home. Three hours before kick off, a few inches of snow dumped on Pullman. The field crew scrambled to clear the snow, and when kick off rolled around, the field was clear and the snow was petering off. I was excited, so I tweeted this. It was almost immediately retweeted by WSU Athletics official Twitter feed - and then by eight more watchers of WSU Athletics. I'd be lying if I didn't say that it was totally awesome. As the game continued, the tweeting of disbelief continued, as freshman Connor Halliday put up incrdible numbers, including a Pac-12 record for passing yards (494) and breaking the freshman quarterback record that had been previously held by Drew Bledsoe (who by the way, was the number one first round draft pick in 1993). Ultimately, the epic win over Arizona State led to this tweet.

Sadly, because the game was so late, I ended up looking like this for most of the night:

...Yay!... )

It was eleven before the game was over. But oh, it was so very worth it.

Yesterday the Seahawks played the Baltimore Ravens, who are considered to be one of the best teams in the NFL at the moment. They hadn't allowed more than two points in the first half a game for almost the whole season, only to see it all fall apart in the first half. Seattle was up 19 to 7 at half time, and even though the Ravens had a penchant for come from behind wins, Seattle was going to fight tooth and nail to keep their lead. The Ravens managed to score ten more points, but the Seahawks also managed to get another field goal in the third quarter and held Baltimore at bay for the rest of the game, bringing their win total to an astounding three. However the Seahawks are heading into a stretch of "easy" games (meaning that they're playing teams who suck worse than they do), meaning that it's entirely possible that we'll win another seven games this season. Sure, not exactly a winning record and by no means are we going to win the NFC West (that goes to the 49ers, who have totally earned it), but as long as we're close to breaking even in terms of wins and losses, I'm good.

All in all, things are good. Husband is probably going to end up working late again (poor guy) and he's hoping that he only has a few days of that left. He's been scrambling to catch up, and would have gone in yesterday except the server was down for its regular maintenance and he wouldn't have been able to do anything beyond logging in.

At any rate, I have some things I need to get taken care off and now that my coffee is cold there's no point in putting it off anymore.

So the Seahawks lost to the Da Bears today, which isn't really that surprising. Part of it had to do with the loss of tight end John Carlson in the first quarter, leaving only backup tight end Cameron Morrah in his place - and while Morrah's done some good this season, most of the practiced plays were with Carlson. Then safety Marcus Trufant was also injured in the third quarter and all things just sort of went to hell in a hand basket after that.

Despite that, though, they managed a late rally to close the point gap to eleven, when it HAD been a shut out at 28-0. Anyway, we pulled off a field goal in the third and then three touchdowns in the fourth to at least make it look semi-respectable. Unfortunately, both Carlson and Trufant are in Chicago with concussions are will not me moved until the local medical staff are confident that they can be moved without risking further injury.

Aside from that today has followed the usual routine of cleaning. After the loss I diligently scrubbed the bathroom and did laundry. My husband has spent the last couple of hours playing Epic Mickey and I've been dinking around on the Interwebz. I really should have worked on fine tuning the sketch of my burlesque Sailor Venus, but I haven't really felt like it.

Which brings me to another point. My cosplay group would rather enjoy doing the Sailor Senshi as burlesque performers, and if we do it, I was nominated to be Sailor Venus because, well, for starters I'm not a proper LDS woman with garments and not afraid to show a little skin and two, I'm curvy. And because Sailor Venus is going to be the one front and center (because let's face it, she is one big hoochie mama), I was the ideal candidate. (Aforementioned reasons are also why I get to be Wonder Woman if/when we do super heroines.)

On Tuesday I'm going to go and sit over at [livejournal.com profile] travellyr's place and nag her to clean, all while picking at my actual job and probably reading. I might even take a sketch book and try and sketch out a couple of ideas for the Sailor Moon Burlesque thing. Maybe. Probably not, now that I think about it. I'll probably poke at my work and read the whole time. XD

First up my Life Clock results, which is interesting but in no way the concrete truth of how long I'll actually live:

Based on my grandparents, I'm probably going to live to be a crochety old woman yelling at kids to stay off my lawn. )

A TL;DR wall of text about how I spent the weekend. )
mercy_angel_09: (Shigure WTF)
The Pacific Northwest is being slammed by a storm today, so intense that they've closed down various river mouths and bays (Columbia River mouth, Tillamook (pronounced till UH muck - saying till UH mook will earn you laughter and scorn) Bay and the Siuslaw (pronounced sigh YOU slaw) River mouth) because the storm is supposed to be so bad. Being about 300 miles inland, we're not going to be slammed, but we'll get a fair amount of rain and such, so needless to say I'm going to enjoy the fact that I can sit on the couch and watch my football (that's American football, to those of you who are not American) and not have to go anywhere.

Speaking of wacky weather, it was pouring when I took my shower, and when I got out ten minutes later it was bright and sunny. It's gone back to being breezy and overcast, with the promise of rain in the next couple of hours. Like I said, the perfect day to sit on the couch and watch football. The Seahawks don't play until 1:05 PM PST, and so I have a couple of hours to kill until the game starts.

The way I'm thinking about wasting time is by playing some Animal Crossing: City Folk. If you're a little lost, you can read this entry where I talk about the game and how it works.

I've finally managed to get the perfect town. One of the goals of the game is to get the perfect number of trees and flowers in each acre and create the "perfect" environment. If you do and keep it perfect for fifteen days, you can get a gold watering can that has a special effect on flowers, as well as the elusive Jacob's Ladder flower will bloom. (Well, the Jacob's Ladder will bloom on the first day of the perfect rating.) I'm trying to maintain the perfect rating, and I have to play every day to do that. Also, I've been buying candy like mad woman because at Halloween your neighbors "Trick or Treat." Give them candy or they'll take something from your pocket, change your clothes, and all in all make you miserable. Giving candy to the Halloween spirit Jack will earn a piece of the Spooky furniture set. Of course, the snag is that your neighbors are all dressed up like Jack. Should be fun trying to find the real one. At any rate, I've got a ton of candy stored in my drawers, and I'm READY for Halloween.

Anyway, I think I'll go play. As fascinating as Mythbusters and Ghost Adventures are, I wanna play for a bit. :)

I have no football today. *pouts*

Technically the Cougars are playing, but the game isn't on TV. The Seahawks also have their Bye Week so no football tomorrow either. My husband has been positively giddy at the idea of me free for an entire weekend.

So, being Saturday, husband and I will be heading out to do our grocery shopping. Except I have no idea what I want for dinner the last two days of week and the idea of going out probably isn't an option. I'm seriously drawing a blank, and even going through the number of cookbooks that I own is coming up with anything that looks remotely appetizing. Not even ideas from Alton Brown or Paula Deen are looking good. (Which is saying something.) I'm drawing a blank, and I have to admit, my one requirement is something that could give me one more day of left overs. Or maybe I just do something easy like spaghetti because that requires maybe all of ten brain cells to make and is great for days when I really don't feel like putting a major effort into my cooking. Shocking, I know.

Other than that, I'm gonna say that today will be pretty laid back. I may start cutting out fabric today and start sewing tomorrow and just get the dress done. The other option is putting in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and working on a zombie cross stitch that I can turn into a pillow just in time for Halloween. Or more of Saiyuki. Both are completely viable entertainment options, and both have been watched/read enough times that I really don't have to pay attention to the screen to know what's going on.

Thoughts about Haven's season finale - behind a cut because wow are they spoilery. )

Anyway, ten minutes after Haven ended I was in bed, probably 45 minutes after that I was asleep, I woke up at 8:30 this morning and I'm still exhausted. I would hate to think that I'm suffering from mild depression (let's face it, there are a lot of different symptoms and they vary from person to person), but my occasional loss of interest, my insane desire to do nothing more than sleep on some days, and pain in places that have no reason to hurt can all be indicators of depression. Or maybe I just have some funky hormonal imbalance that is presenting as depression. Well fuck. I'm like an episode of House now.

I suppose I should truly get my ass in gear. I'm showered and dressed (God I love being clean) and now I need to go grocery shopping. Food is a must.

Today's football:

Photobucket

Actually, that sums up yesterday's football, too.

Blargh. Just a bad, bad weekend for football. Anyway, going to meet my husband's cousin's fiance. Really, I'm in it for the free food.
mercy_angel_09: (Default)
When I woke up this morning, it wasn't raining. By the time I went to the bathroom and got out again, it was raining. Then it stopped. Then it started up again and has more or less being going for the last hour or so. The windows are all open and it smells fantastic in the apartment.

Secondly, I'm watching the Fox Pregame Show. I've missed the boys, especially Terry Bradshaw's Butt Monkey status. Hell, I've missed football in general, which causes a lot of my friends to die laughing when they realize that my husband is the football widow in this relationship. If I'm lucky, he'll watch about an hour of the game with me, but for the most part he's not a fan and therefore tends to wander off to watch something else in the bedroom.

I watched the end of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann yesterday. HOLY CRAP. That is all.

And now, for a little game. Look at the cover of this romance novel and figure out what's wrong with it.

We look at this and wonder exactly how many people looked at this cover and didn't realize that there was something very wrong with it. )

Please PM me with answers or spoiler tag your answer so people can all have a fair chance to figure it out.

I think that about sums everything up. I need to shower and clean (it's Sunday, after all) and once that's done, FOOTBALL. :3

So it finally snowed here. Not a lot, probably only half an inch, but it's pretty and snow, so I don't care. I'm just happy it's on the ground. They're calling for more, but the chances are not good. Sad.

Anyway, I'm currently watching football (the Seahawks aren't doing so well, but I didn't actually expect them to beat Houston, so whatever) and for the first three quarters of the game pinning the various pieces of [livejournal.com profile] chaosblue's dress. The skirt is completely pinned together, the front panels are currently pinned up the center and then ready to be pinned to each other, and the back panels are marked and ready to be sewn as well. So - PROGRESS! \o/ Hooray!

My brother will also be arriving within an hour or so, though who knows. I figure he'll arrive
after
the football game, which should be in about half an hour-ish, pending on how fast the game wraps up. Given the way the game is going, it'll be sooner rather than later. The guest room is ready, and maybe this year he'll actually sleep under the covers instead on top of them. I'm expecting his visit to go like last year's - a lot of time with him sitting on the couch, playing his Xbox with occasional friend visits. It's hard to say how many friends he'll be seeing, but thankfully I don't have to drive his butt all over town.

Meh, I'll probably start sewing this afternoon - I really don't have anything else I need to do. Thankfully the dress is only going to take a few days to actually sew together. Most of that time will be spent pinning, too. (Lots of pinning...especially in the skirt.) Also in preparation for the big end of the year bash I need to book a hotel room, which will not be at the same place as [livejournal.com profile] travellyr and [livejournal.com profile] sideshow_ericka because I want to be closer to [livejournal.com profile] chaosblue because I'm pretty sure there won't be a work surface for me to set up my sewing machine on. So if I have to be running back and forth to make adjustments, I'd rather not spend half an hour sitting in traffic to do it. So we'll see the girls at VooDoo Doughnut on Thursday.

Well, the game is pretty much over (the 2:00 warning just hit, so there's not much to do) so I'm gonna start in on the sewing.

I has football in less than fifteen minutes. I CAN HAS WIN!! Sorry, enthusiasm for yesterday is still running high, as my Cougs won against SMU and of course, the Huskie's last second win against USC. HAIL THE CONQUERING HEROES!

Of course, this brings up the interesting topic of BSC Rankings. I think that Graham Messner put it nicely in this OpEd piece that argues that BCS Rankings are a bunch of bullshit because there is no rhyme or reason to the rankings.  The coaches don't actually vote in the coaches poll, nor does the Associate Press vote with complete neutrality based solely on how a game was won or lost and the scores.  So despite the Huskie's momentous win in Seattle yesterday, it's entirely possible that they will not earn any sort of ranking.  Likewise, don't expect USC to fall out of the top ten - they're still a heavy favorite of the AP, and Pete Carroll likes it that way. (I swear, the man is the biggest media whore.  And he was like that when he was coaching the Patriots, too.)

Moving on, the Seahawks are playing the 49er's for the No. 1 spot in the NFC West today, and I have to admit, I like our chances. Despite their dismal performance last season, the Seahawks have rebounded nicely this season, with their first 4-0 preseason EVER.  And considering the Seahawks have been around since the 70s, that's saying something.  I don't expect my boys in blue to go undefeated (I'm a firm believer that you can't win them all), but I'm hoping for a winning season and a chance to go to the playoffs.  As far as the division goes, I think the 49ers are going to be a strong team and tough to beat, but it's doable (we did it last year - and that was with a losing season).

And last night was a fun girl's night with Ericka and Maria.  We went to go see All About Steve.  It's not a serious, hard core movie, but it was cute and silly and I love Sandra Bullock so it was all good.  I also had to suffer sit through a New Moon trailer, which furthered my belief that Bella has no brain, or is even in her right mind.  Because NO ONE jumps into the Pacific Ocean from a cliff in Washington.  I do believe in this area, they call it suicide.  Of course, Ericka and I started imagining it re-enacted in 30 seconds or less by bunnies.  Or in Ericka's case, Raving Rabbids.  Edward screaming "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaa!" and beating his opponents with sausages and plungers.  And Jacob being a were-yak.  I'm pretty sure we laughed harder at the mocking of the Twilight saga than at the movie.  And we were laughing pretty damn hard over the movie.

Well, I need food, I have football, and I need to start assembling sewing projects.  (And somewhere in all of this, I need to clean the bathroom.)

mercy_angel_09: (Heavyarms)
I'm a Washington State University fan through and through.  I have my degree from there, I was born on campus, and I don't think many others bleed crimson and gray the way I do.  As such, I'm not a fan of the University of Washington - mostly because Husky fans are a pretentious lot who think that they're better than everyone else.  They are only below University of Southern California fans in their general douchbaggery.  But when UW plays USC, I will root for the Dawgs until I'm blue in the face, especially when the Dawgs have chance to beat USC.  ESPECIALLY when the Trojans are ranked and the Dawgs are not.  Because the Dawgs went 0-12 last year.  (Yes, that right, while WSU sucked last year, UW sucked WORSE.)

--EDIT: UW JUST PWNED USC.--

(On a completely unrelated note, I've always had this burning desire to go to a USC game wearing a Trojan condom or condoms...I mean REALLY, how does one resist the urge to be so petty anyway?)

My Cougs are not on TV (big surprise there! ::rolls eyes::) and are currently trailing the Southern Methodist Mustangs (who?!) by ten points.  They're probably in to the second quarter by now, if not starting the second half.  Anyway, the point is that there is time for them to turn this around.  I just hope that they'll win at least a FEW games this season.

In other news, I've got the fabric and the lining for the shrug cut out, and I now have the motivation I need to hem the jacket for my MLP so I can officially sew the shrug.  The only reason why I've put it off is because I've been frustrated by it and decided to take a break.  Well, considering that was along the lines of a month ago, it's time to pick up the sewing machine again and get to it.  Also because I have a dress to sew.  ^^  And a costume.  And somewhere in there find a job and write a novel.

Ahhh, how I love the month of November.  X3
mercy_angel_09: (Heavyarms)
I know I am. My husband has sighed and rolled his eyes and wondered aloud how *anyone* can watch football, but I am EXCITED. I'm going to wear my Seahawks jersey and my cap and root for my boys! \o/ WOO!
