I've decided that I'm not going to make a new costume for Sakura-con this year, instead opting to just wear Sheena again. She's comfortable, travels well, and best of all, doesn't require a lot of hair and make-up. I'm going to order a pre-styled wig after I officially get paid so that it will hopefully be here. I also still need to register, but that will also happen after getting paid. And paying taxes. :p

However, I'd like to do something different for 2013, I was thinking about Zelda's "maiden form" from A Link to the Past.

One of the perks of this particular outfit is that few cosplayers actually do it. )

I already found a costume pattern that I can modify and the Trifoce earrings I can make easily enough out of Sculpy or Fimo clay. In terms of footware I was thinking Victorian style walking boots. Part of the reason why I want to do the Maiden Zelda is that she's rarely done - most cosplayers either do her most recent incarnation or her official "Princess" gowns from past games. I've seen a few do her maiden form, but personally I like the gown and the simplicity of it.

I will admit that I'm a little concerned on how to pull of the ears. Obviously a quick Google search should turn something up, so I'm not too worried about it. I'm actually ridiculously excited about this - I've always wanted to do Princess Zelda but the idea of doing her full princess mode has deterred me in the past. I'm such a perfectionist that I couldn't do the costume without getting all of the details right. I figure this way I do Zelda in a way that's rarely done, along with something simple enough that I won't go nuts trying to make it happen.

Still accepting Christmas card requests via this entry! Go ahead and drop off a request and an address if you feel so inclined.

And now a meme.

Stolen from both [livejournal.com profile] earthstar_moon and [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny.

1. Think of up to 20 ships you support.
2. List them using descriptions of the characters involved rather than their names.
3. Have your f-list guess as many of the ships as they can.

See tags for the fandoms. That might help a little. I don't think they're too hard, though. )

So Nintendo, like most major developers, broadcasted their E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo, held at the LACC) presentation online in real time. Since it started at nine, and oh hey, I'm just sitting down for my morning cup of coffee, I tuned in.

First of all, this is the 25th Anniversary of the Legend of Zelda. And so the presentation kicked off with a clip show of all of the Zelda titles to date (including the yet to be officially launched Ocarina of Time 3DS and Skyward Sword) set to a live orchestra. HOLY. SHIT.

They then announced that since it's the 25th Anniversary, that today on the 3DS you can download Link's Awakening for the virtual console, that later this year Four Swords Adventure would be FREE on the DSi, and then Skyward Sword would officially launch this holiday season.

Cue me fangasaming into my coffee and praying I would snork it all over my computer. Furthermore, they showed NEW (at least to me) footage from Skyward Sword, including footage of a girl who could quite possibly be the very first Princess Zelda. She's gorgeous, by the way.

Of course I'm also stupid excited about future 3DS titles (further proof that I might actually need one, damn it), from Kid Icarus to Luigi's Mansion 2, and of course, the first official look at the new console, Wii U. Sure the name might sound silly, but it looks AMAZING. Hi-Def capabilities, a controller that doubles as a tablet, personal screen, digital board game (demoed with Othello), and God knows what else, and excellent on-line capabilities? OH GOD I WANT ONE SO BAD LEIK WHOA.

Naturally I'm going to start saving up for a 3DS (expensive, but I really, really, really, really want to be able to play Ocarina of Time 3DS and Kid Icarus and Mario Kart and...). Which may mean fifty dollars a month from each paycheck. I am okay with this because I really want one. (As if it weren't painfully obvious, right?)

Anyway, getting together with [livejournal.com profile] desertkitsune this afternoon and I gotta get ready. Ta!

It's fun, you know, when you realize something that you love is also connected to something else you love.

Because it's NaNo, WMP shuffle is in over-drive, giving me tunage to crank word counts out to. Because there are over 300 tracks in the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack, the tracks often show up whenever I hit the shuffle button.

The game itself has a nifty option where you can go in and listen to the tracks you've unlocked and it tells you who arranged it, what game it's from, and so on. Brawl really touted the soundtrack when they were advertising it, boasting some of the biggest names in video game composing as arrangers from some of the memorable tracks from the various games referenced within.

Perhaps the most notable is Nobuo Uematsu, Mister Final Fantasy himself, as the composer and arranger of the main theme for Brawl. Sadly, he only works on the one track. It's a missed moment of awesome in my book, but I'm sure it wasn't easy to get him to do the title track so we'll take what we got and not bitch too much.

The second name that popped out at me was Motoi Sakuraba. Now, I know not everyone on my friends list knows who that is, but about five of you just went, NO WAY! Motoi Sakuraba is probably best know for his work on the various Tales of games, the Golden Sun franchise, as well as doing the soundtrack for Saiyuki. Yes, that Saiyuki. He arranged a couple of different tracks for the Brawl soundtrack (as well as composed a few, lol), though off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you which ones. (A project for another day to figure out which ones he arranged, or, you know, check out the Smash Bros. wikia and check their article on the soundtrack for that information.)

The other name that got me really excited was Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer from Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. This should explain why I was so excited:

Despite Chrono Cross being mixed when it came to gameplay, plot and other factors, there was never any doubt that it has one of the best soundtracks ever.

Anyway, I was impressed with the list of composers that they got to do arrangements on the game, making the Brawl soundtracks absolutely one of the best as far as video games go. By far most video games have to have excellent soundtracks simply because you'll be listening to it over and over and over ad nauseum.

...You know, when I started this I thought I'd have some witty ending to tie it all together.

I don't.

I'm just singing the praises of excellent music. :) That's all.
