Yesterday's BPAL scent was Oneiroi from the Somnium collection. It smells pretty good, though the gardenia is a little overpowering at first. But it does mellow quite nicely on me, so it's one of those things that I'm happy to get as an Imps Ear and will probably use sparingly. The inspiration, of course, comes from the Oneiroi, the Greek dream deities. (Those of you on my F-list who read Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters series are familiar with this particular subset of gods, known in the books as the Dream-Hunters.) The scent is clean and fresh (and to me sometimes overwhelmingly gardenia), which seems sort of counter-intuitive as to how it's described on the web site.
Also, I'm going to write a bit about video games. :) Because I can.
First of all, this should come as no surprise to most of my friends list that I am an avid gamer. I spent something like two and a half years with Princess Zelda as my default icon. I started gaming when I was old enough to take the blaster and hold it up to the TV screen and pull the trigger. (Everyone cheated at Duck Hunt at one point or another, if for no other reason than to not have to listen to the dog laughing at you.)
So guess who managed to get herself stuck on TV Tropes again today? Oh yes. I did. I was poking around the tropes associated with Super Smash Bros. when I started clicking out-bound links and giggling at the various things people have managed to pull off. And the memes that have been spawned. And of course, my brain, working the way that it does, started thinking about some of the strange phenomena contained within the games. And the weird connections.
Did you realize that both the Japanese seiyuu and the English voice actor for Tamahome from Fushigi Yugi are both in Brawl? Your head may now asplode.
As a general rule, I tend to have two or three characters that I latch on to and and get really good with. Link has been my constant since the beginning, and then the additions of Peach and Zelda in Melee and then Ike and Pit in Brawl. I can't help but adore Ike, even if he is one of the worst characters in the game. They use his Path of Radiance character design, meaning you're fighting with a scrawny seventeen year old mercenary.

The fandom was a little confused, especially seeing as Radiant Dawn had come out only a few months before and continued promotion of the title using the updated character design in Brawl seemed like the most logical step for Nintendo. Because then you would have been using a super buff twenty year old mercenary who is capable of clearing entire maps on his own.

The fandom isn't sure if he was juicing between games or just working his ass off training. And yes, they're the same guy. Aside from some of the smaller characters getting a bit taller (like Sothe and Tormod...though Tormod is questionable at best, lol) because the physical differences between a fourteen year old boy and a seventeen year old boy are quite pronounced, Ike looks like he's been hanging out with Mark McGwire for the three years between Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.Yes, apparently Nintendo and Intelligent Systems are big fans of Theme Naming. Go figure. As it stands, once you get used to Ike's controls, he's actually a bit of a tank in Brawl. Considering that the Ragnell is a Big Fucking Sword that is blessed by a goddess, it's considered to be one of the most powerful weapons in the entire Tellius series (rivaled only by its twin Alondite, carried by Ike's enemy The Black Knight). Hell, it's probably one of the strongest weapons in Brawl and it has one of the best ranges because it's LONG. (So yes, long sword is long. It's like a claymore, if that makes any sense.)
At any rate, Scrawny Ike hits with all of the power of Buff Ike, which makes me wonder if they programmed the character thinking that they would be using his Radiant Dawn character art and then were told that he'd look like he did in the first game. Wild mass guessing on my part, in any case.
Also on the subject of Brawl, you have the pleasure of designing your own stages. My brother designed one that is so nefarious in purpose, your best bet is to find a safe place and just stand there, waiting for the match to end. I kid you not. If you're really lucky, you've picked a character with FANTASTIC mobility (Pit, Jigglypuff, Kirby) otherwise you're screwed and the only way to get out of the hell you're caught in is to kill yourself. My baby brother can be a real butt monkey when he wants to be.
Anyway, I've also thought about what character I would include in a Super Smash Bros. title if I could magically have my way. I remember reading on a message board (heaven forbid I remember which one) that someone thought that Kratos would be a great addition. Personally, I'd be happy with Kratos, Zelos or Lloyd. I'm pretty good at kicking ass and taking names with all three of them - plus their hi-ougis would make pretty impressive Final Smash moves. Though...I gotta say, the idea of pwnage with Sheena is pretty appealing, too. Her Final Smash could be summoning Origin to bring the pain to the entire battle field.
Yes, I am aware that my brain works in a very non-traditional way, which caused endless frustration with various family members who wanted to put into a nice, neat little box when I refused to do just that. The end result is what appears to a linear train of thought that zigzags back and forth like a squirrel looking for its nuts.
I've also been playing Animal Crossing, which is the kind of game that one plays daily, or sometimes more, depending on what's going on. I have achieved the perfect town, caught all but four of the bugs, have all of the fish and fossils in the museum, and am slowly acquiring paintings (which would be a hell of a lot easier if they weren't usually fakes). I've also decided that I'm going to start collecting the "rare" furniture series - which are the series that you can't buy in the store and can only get by doing special events. I played for several hours on Halloween night (actually, it was the next morning but I set the clock on the Wii back so I could officially play on Halloween night) just to acquire the Spooky furniture set. Of course now that Halloween is past, I won't be displaying it, but oh well. I'm currently working on getting the complete "Mush" set of furniture, which is collected by picking the mushrooms that grow in your town over the month of November. I think the "Harvest" set up next (gotten from Franklin the turkey on Thanksgiving), and then the "Jingle" series at Christmas. Once it snows you can roll snowmen and get the "Snowman" furniture series, but I managed to complete that set last year so if I do get more pieces I'll sell them for some quick cash that I can use to buy other stuff.
The thing about the Animal Crossing series is that it is either a completionist's wet dream or their worst nightmare. The game really never ends and the only way to truly "beat" the game is to get every single item. That's every single piece of furniture. Every roll of wall paper. Every floor covering. Every shirt. Every piece of eye wear, head wear and face wear. All of the umbrellas. Further more, you can breed flowers, getting different color combinations based on the color of the flowers that are in a given area. Planting yellow pansies next to red pansies will breed orange pansies. Plant red roses next to white roses will breed pink roses. All red tulips will occasionally spawn black tulips. Red pansies will occasionally spawn purple pansies. Breeding flowers alone takes time and effort. There are various trophies and special items that you can get to commemorate holidays, special achievements (like winning the bug hunting and fishing tourneys) and cannot receive unless you have done the specified task. Personally, I enjoy the challenge of trying to get every single item in the game. I really need to make an Excel spread sheet or something and just check off the items I have in my inventory because those are the items I've gotten. Or maybe that's a little too obsessive and I'll just do what I want in the game.
I've been thinking about other games and I want Donkey Kong Country Returns because OHMYGOSH I loved the Donkey Kong Country games as a kid and I was actually pretty good at them.
ALSO! I'm up for recommendations for Nintendo DSi games. I have Animal Crossing: Wild World, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, CrossWorDS, Diddy Kong Racing DS and Mario Kart DS. Most of the time I forget I have the DSi (unless I'm on vacation in which case I can sit in the car/plane and play for hours), and I would really like to get some new games. I'm a fan of RPGs, racers, brain puzzles, and action/adventure games. I'm curious to know if anyone else on my F-list has recs as to what I could play, partially because my own collection is lame and secondly I really don't follow the news feeds anymore (save for Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Tales of Symphonia, lol) so I really don't know what's out there and my brother isn't as forthcoming about new titles as he used to be. (But he's also a senior in college, he's allowed to be busy.)
Errr...I think that's enough rambling for now. I really should make those deviled eggs. ^^;;
But I love the video games and could spend all day talking about them!!
