Today's BPAL scent is Twenty One from their Bewitching Brews collection. In the bottle it smells like a martini. On me it smells really sour. REALLY SOUR. Twenty One will now be banished to the bottom of the bag, hopefully never to resurface. As a general rule I have never hated a scent from BPAL before, but now I can honestly say that I hate one.

Plugging away at NaNo, and I have no idea if you can see the widget I have tacked between entries on my blog, but it's a running word counter that's linked directly to the NaNoWriMo website. Every time I update my word count on the official NaNo site, it automatically up dates it here. Pretty awesome.

Welp, time to really get going on dinner. It's Caribbean Rice and Shrimp, but done in the slow cooker. Hooray for easy food!
mercy_angel_09: (luna and artimis)
Today's BPAL scent is Eden from the Wanderlust collection. The scent is fig leaf, fig fruit, honeyed almond milk, toasted coconut and sandalwood, and on me pretty much all you can smell is the honeyed almond milk. Interesting fact, any scents with honey in them always end up smelling like talcum powder on me. :/ Which is a major bummer because I rather like how Eden smells when I first put it on, but after half an hour the smell switches to baby powder and that's not how I want to smell the whole day.

Anyway, I need to sit down and get working on NaNo since I'm done with all of my cleaning for the day. According to the main site I'm two days ahead, which is all fine and dandy, but I'd really like to keep as much ahead of the curve as I possibly can, because by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, I'm usually spending all day doing other stuff and not writing, and so I try to make it so that I only have a few hundred words to crank out instead of nearly 2000. Besides, being ahead of the curve usually means that when I hit rough patches, I can easily get to my daily goal and not worry about scrambling to make it.

Anyway, I need to get to work. Though I'm seriously debating having lunch first.

I know I said I didn't have a lot of material for real entries this month, but I decided that it wouldn't kill me to share that I got some new BPAL last week and the result is that I have more Imps Ears to test out.

Today's scent is Aelophile from the Steamworks collection. The perfume is infused with amber and citrus, labdanum, verbena, cedar, and oud, and on me smells like a cross between the industrial hand soap in public restrooms and incense. We'll see how it ages, because despite the odd images it conjures in my mind, the scent itself I find quite pleasant and soothing.

The scents I actually ordered for myself were Havana and Alice's Evidence. I had waffled about buying Havana at Sakura-Con, and I finally decided to bite the bullet and get some when I ordered the Tintagel for [livejournal.com profile] travellyr. Havana is a masculine scent - leather, date plam, snake root oil and tobacco, but when I put it on it becomes sweet and musky. It smells ridiculously good on me, which is good because I was going to be pissed if I couldn't wear it. Alice's Evidence still smells fantastic on me as well, so all is good in the world of perfume.

In other news, I'm going through my Imps Ears and figuring out which ones I want to give to my sister to try out. Since I bought a bottle of Alice's Evidence, I'll let her take my Imps Ear of that to try out. I asked her what kind of scents she prefers, and once I get a response I'll sort through them accordingly, though a few are off limits, especially the ones that have a more sexually oriented nature, like O, Golden Pariapus, or The Sacred Whore of Babylon. I can't imagine that my parents would like that I gave her perfume with those names. However, if she likes roses, I'll give her Marie and Versailles and I may be going through the "BPAL" tag to find the other scents I didn't care much for and see if maybe my sister can wear them.

She's turning sixteen, of course I'm going to spoil her. Which reminds me, I need to go and find some funky nail polish...

Real Life!!

Not much to say, except that I'm a little relieved that I'm not actually filling out a meme today. :3

Here be warnin's about fandom wank! )

In better news, [livejournal.com profile] forgotten_relic is coming for a visit, so this afternoon will be spent in the guest room trying to get things cleaned up so she has a place to crash. Even though she says that she doesn't mind sleeping on the couch, there's no point in having her crash on the couch when there is a perfectly good bed she can sleep in. She's also here if she wants to join [livejournal.com profile] travellyr's BPAL party. I'm attending, of course, with computer in tow as I have my Excel spread sheet with my list of wants on it.

Further more, I've got an idea for a Mercy Thompson fanfic. Now whether or not I actually write it will come down to interest. If enough people are interested I'll write it and post it, otherwise I'll just push it from my brain and move on to other things.

Anyway, I should probably get going. Since I'm up and showered, I really have no reason not to get started on the things I need to do today.

mercy_angel_09: (NeasalaxLeanne)
Today's BPAL scent is Against Idleness & Mischief from the Mad Tea Party collection. Based on the poem by the same name, the scent smells like pollen-dusted honey, tonka, chamomile, and hyssop. It's a bit sweet for me, and a bit too floral for my likes. Not bad, but just not me.

Anyway, it's been raining like crazy where I live. Yesterday my parking lot was almost completely flooded, and the street right in front of my complex was probably under a foot of water. Apparently the drainage system here can't keep up with the kind of rain we've been getting. Even as I write this, there's a downpour outside. I was wondering if I would need to water the plants today, as it turns out, nature is taking care of that for me. I just hope they don't drown because they're getting TOO much water. :/

I'm looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend, though we'll see if that actually happens. In the mean time, I have some time to kill and the Wii is calling my name.

mercy_angel_09: (Witch Hunter Robin)
Today's BPAL scent is Lampades, from the Bewitching Brews collection. The Lampades are the darkly beautiful nymphs of the underworld, also called the Lethe Nymphae Avernales. They are the daughters of the Gods that govern the many rivers of Hades. The Lampades are Hecate's torch-bearers and accompany the Goddess on her hunts, quests and revels. The scent has notes of cranberry with smoky dark lilies, heady, sensual musk, a tingle of ginger and a brush of Mediterranean spices. To me, it smells like a combination of Hot Topic, Spencers, and the Octopus' Garden. I rather like it, but I don't know if I'll be buying it any time soon.

In other news, I'm going with [livejournal.com profile] travellyr to pick up a fish tank in Pasco. I don't know if it's a large fish tank that requires two people to move or if it's a matter of safety in numbers, but I'm game. Otherwise I'll be sitting on the couch all afternoon playing DotNW.

Also in other news, the local Applebee's is having a Full Moon party tonight (not that you could see it for all the cloud cover we have right now), which is basically a black light party in the bar. I'm wearing my black light responsive Invader ZIM tee shirt (with GIR ala Space Invaders, with the giant Irkian symbol on the back) which will look AWESOME under a black light. :3 Anyway, the party isn't until nine tonight, so I still have some time to kill, which is probably a good thing. I have dishes to do and some shopping to take care of tonight.

...I suppose the dishes won't do themselves. *sigh*

mercy_angel_09: (lorelai dirty)
"Well, they might have added a Magdalene to it."

"Wow, biblical insults. This is an advanced school."

Todays BPAL scent is Magdalene from the Sin and Salvation collection. It's a light scent of white roses, labdanum, and wild orchid. Touted as, "A stirring yet gentle perfume. The scent of love and devotion mingled with an undercurrent of heart-rending sorrow," on me it smells like talcum powder. I don't know how the last several scents have all come to smell like talcum powder on me, but they do. Kind of irritating because I love how Magdalene smells in the bottle - soft, feminine, without screaming, "Hi! I'm a helpless female!"

In other news, yesterday I played the Copypasta game from various back-up CDs to the HTPC. I transferred all of Tales of Symphonia: The Animation to the HTPC, all but three episodes of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and all of Zettai Kareshi. The only reason three episodes of PGSM wouldn't transfer is apparently due to the way that the files were written onto the data discs. I can still play them from the CD - so it's not like I can never watch those episodes again.

I'm still chugging along on DotNW New Game Plus. I'm glad that I'm up to level 30 already - as it will mean that fighting Decus won't be just a pain in the ass and won't take fifty bazillion tries. >_< And since I've finally figured out how to use Zelos' mystic arte (though I can't say I've ever used Marta's...hmm, I should probably give that a try) I can now bring the pain. Heh. Well, at any rate I should probably find some lunch and then clean off the grill so that my husband and I can do dinner tonight (since we're probably going to end up doing burgers).

mercy_angel_09: (Default)
Lilium Inter Spinas )

Today's scent is Lilium Inter Spinas from the Ars Amatoria collection. It's Hibiscus syriacus, white sandalwood, lily of the valley, apple blossom, and green fig. Soft and floral, on me it smells like baby powder. Seriously, what is it about these scents that smell like baby or talcum powder on me anyway?! I like it, but not enough to buy it.

In other news, today I was bit by the cleaning bug, so I've been busily getting stuff that has accumilated where it doesn't belong back to where it does belong. I've also vacuumed because yesterday I came to the startling realization that the apartment probably hadn't been vacuumed since I went to SakuraCon, and that was almost two months ago. Not that our apartment really gets enough foot traffic to warrant vacuuming every day, it should be done at least weekly for the sake of cleanliness.

Further more, I need to get a trash bag to throw out clothes that are too small/ripped beyond repair followed by a box to put clothes that are still in pretty good condition and can be given to either Plato's Closet (who will pay me for whatever I bring it) or Goodwill. I have an entire dresser full of clothes that I just don't wear anymore, either because they're too small or they're just not what I wear anymore. I do want my sister to pick through and find the things she wants (because she's the right size and age to wear them) before taking my haul in. As it stands, there are quite a few things that she's claimed in the past that I know she'll be quite displeased if I get rid of without asking her if she wants them, first. But since school is almost out, I may just wait and do this when she has a free day from school so I don't have to deal with my step-dad asking what the heck I'm doing trying to pawn off my stuff on my sister. Never mind that most of the stuff she claims she's wanted for a while.

But I digress.

Plugging along in my second play through of DotNW. I may not play a lot today, as I want to transfer Zettai Kareshi to the HTPC, and will probably end up transferring Tales of Symphonia: The Animation and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon for the heck of it. It's not like the HTPC doesn't have the room and if I watch them again it makes sense to watch them on the HTPC as it's hooked up to the TV and will be far better for watching than on my computer.

And somewhere in all of this, I need lunch. Too bad I have no idea what I want to eat.

mercy_angel_09: (Gojyo)
Today's BPAL scent is Sacred Whore of Babylon, touted as, "And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth. An ancient formula that inspires unrepentant decadence, lechery and debauch." It smells musky, with incense and oils, probably what ancient brothels smelled like (I'm guessing, I can't honestly say that I know for sure). Honestly, closing my eyes and taking a whiff reminds me of sex. Go figure.

Yesterday I started my New Game Plus in DotNW, and I opted to keep all of my monsters. That has turned into something as a Game Breaker, as Titan, the wolf I caught in the beginning of my first play through, is almost level 90 and basically can one hit kill any opponent. This includes bosses. So while I'll probably make sure that Titan is in my ranks when I face off against Alice and Decus the first couple of times (and probably Richter, by default), the rest of the time he'll be hanging out with the Katz Guild while I level up my other monsters. Like Zanatu, who I used until I got better monsters. Poor widdle imp. X3

Anyway, I really should do my cleaning...I just haven't felt like it. ;_;

mercy_angel_09: (Twilight Princess)
Today's scent is Versailles - reminiscent of King Louis XIV - from BPAL's Wanderlust collection. It smells like gilded red and gold citrus with amber, ruby roses, jasmine and orris, and reminds me faintly of baby powder. ^^;; It's not a bad scent, but I don't think it's for me.

In other news, I finally beat DotNW last night, after much swearing at the TV and Richter in general. After a couple of mystic artes (specifically, Lloyd and Zelos, because of the original ToS cast, they can do the most damage in single hits) I managed to finally beat Richter into submission. Oh yes, this also took me something like ten tries and forty-five minutes to officially pull this off. I'm hoping that on the New Game Plus I'll be a little more leveled up so that I don't always get immediately pwned by Alice or Decus, or Richter for that matter (even though you really only have to beat him once, all other battles do not result in Game Over).

I suppose I should start going through cook books trying to determine what I want for dinner this week. I'm not really inspired and there's nothing that I've really been wanting so I'm completely at an a loss.

mercy_angel_09: (Witch Hunter Robin)
Today's BPAL scent is The Light of Men's Lives, inspired the Grimm's Fairytale "Godfather Death." I don't really know how to describe the scent - bittersweet, I suppose, with a hint of wax and musk. And the vague scent of something burning, as well. I think it's supposed to be reminiscent of a burning candle. It's okay, but it's not a favorite.

Anyway, I'm gearing up to face the final bosses in DotNW - so I'm currently revisiting past temples and dungeons to pick some fights and gain some experience points to boost Emil and Marta's stats. I want to try and get through the final bosses without using a bazillion items. And see if I can't get at least two of Marta's speed cast abilities. Unlike the original, side quests are a long running affair and about the only way you're going to get them is if you instigate them in previous chapters. Well, I suppose it's something to keep in mind for later play throughs.

I thought I would have most of this weekend to sit around and play, get my bearings, see if I could totally beat all dungeons, etc., because my husband was supposed to be going out of town this weekend with his dad. They were supposed to do some pest control in back woods Idaho, but the weather is teh suck there, so now they're not going. >_< There goes my nice, relaxing, weekend.

Bleugh....I have to clean out the fridge now. The left-overs are starting to reach critical mass.

mercy_angel_09: (Renge)
I smell mysterious. Exotic. Like...Indonesia. Today's BPAL scent is Snake Oil, from their Ars Amatoria collection. It's a combination of Indonesian oils sweetened with vanilla. Like "O" it's got just a hint of vanilla adding a sweetness to the scent. I like it so far, but I've only had it on for a couple of minutes so I have no idea how the scent will hold out. Some age fantastically (like Alice's Evidence or Lorelei) while others just seem to get worse. So far so good, but before I actually decide to buy it, I'm going to let it age and see what I think at the end of the day.

In DotNW (which my friend [livejournal.com profile] travellyr hilariously pointed out that she reads that as "Do Not Want"), I'm up to Altamira. Joy of joys, I'm wandering around the resort town without the luxury of being able to really wander (damn Vanguard). I have found that I've finally adjusted to the battle system, and using Mystic Artes to PWN thine enemy is ridiculously fun. ^_^ Hopefully on subsequent play throughs I'll be able to use more than just Emil's Mystic Arte - as most of the original cast has some pretty epic fire power (but more than anything else, I just wanna see Zelos' angel wings!!). And, y'know, be pathetically leveled up. DX Sadly, Emil doesn't level up all that quickly - mostly because while your chances of being experience points are good, they've really upped the number of EXP that you need to get to the next level. Usually the only time you're going to level up is if you're wandering around dungeons looking for fights (which isn't always a good idea) or beating a boss. I prefer the boss beating method - but sometimes that just won't level you up fast enough. Though I usually avoid battles (and thus using items/artes unnecessarily) I'm finding myself actually running into enemies because otherwise Emil will be pathetically leveled until I can earn either 2x or 10x the experience points. *sigh* No way around it, I guess.

mercy_angel_09: (Gojyo)
When my sister was in college, one of the dorms she lived in was called Orton. They actually put on their dorm shirts, "It's all about the O. How loud is yours?" (Compared to the ones that my husband's dorm wanted to put on theirs ("Engineers do their best work on their backs"), this was relatively tame.)

Today's BPAL scent is simply "O," from their Ars Amatoria collection. They describe it as, "The scent of sexual obsession, slavery to sensual pleasure, and the undercurrent of innocence defiled utterly." The scent itself is of amber and honey with a touch of vanilla. As a general rule, I can't stand vanilla as a scent. It's often too heavy for me and gives me a headache. However, blended in with the amber and honey, and being as light as it is, means that I smell sweet - and debauched. ^^ I like it, but I don't know if I actually want to buy it. More thought is required...

In other news, in DotNW I'm up to the Temple of Darkness, retrieving Tenebrae's core after he went from Deadpan Snarker to core state due to cute-but-evil-sadist-bitch Alice being, well, sociopathic. I actually tried to beat the damn thing last night but died. Part of it is that even though you're revisiting a lot of locations from the first game, they've changed things up, drawing you in DEEPER. It's not necessarily a The Developers Though of Everything sort of moment, it's more, "Let's put a lot of ambiguous doors that you can go through into the temples." And the enemies. And the frakking battle system. And oh yeah, the enemies certainly don't believe in the trope of If You Want To Fight Me, Get In Line. They will all gang up on you and PWN your ass and you have to do everything in your frakking power to get away long enough to have Marta heal you, or use a recovery item.

Oh, have I mentioned how annoying it is when you use too many "artes" or items? The characters actually yell at each other. "You're using too many items!" or "Don't just use artes!" Of course, then there's a snarky reply to each statement ("It's to win!" for the former, "But it's more fun this way!" for the latter), but you still get the feeling that you should 1) be better so you don't have to use a bazillion items just to stay alive, or B) learn how to properly combo attacks. As it stands, half the time I forget to use Emil's artes so the latter statements are almost never directed at me. I am guilty of using too many items. I kind of like being alive, you know. Makes it easier to win battles that way.

I suppose this afternoon I'll try to beat the Temple of Darkness. I have to remember that I can't just rely on what I already know about the temple (even if I found that "hidden" treasure chest because of it).

mercy_angel_09: (Gojyo)
I smell like almonds, myrrh and dark musk. I smell quite witchy, actually. Today's scent is Hecate from BPAL's Excolo collection. It's rather enchanting in a dark and mysterious way. I like it, and I think I may get a bottle of it down the road.

In other news, I'm plugging along in DotNW because I have copious amounts of downtime, even though I should probably go through all of my drawers again and clean out the stuff that I don't wear anymore. I should probably also get a box to put all of this in, but that would require use of my car, which is currently down with a case of, "WTF SPEAKERS GO IN." My husband is replacing all of the speakers in my car (since he replaced the back deck speakers two weeks ago) to give me the most rockin' sound system EVER. In theory this is all great and grand, except he's having issues getting the speakers into the car. I'm wondering if he should have started with the back door speakers instead of the front door speakers, because I could still use my car.

I have the sinking feeling that I'm housebound for the next couple of days until he can get everything figured out.

Boo.

Well, I suppose I should finish cleaning off the grill. I need to get that taken care of so we can do dinner the rest of the week.
mercy_angel_09: (Default)
Today's lovely BPAL scent is Marie from the Diabolus collection. It's violets and tea rose, the favorite scent of one very spoiled Austrian teenaged princess whose husband was most likely...gay. (The fact that they had children was probably a direct result of thinking about other people and a duty to the family line.) Anyway, it's an old lady scent again, and on me it smells a bit sour. Oh yeah, I won't be buying this one.

In other news, I wrapped up Tales of Symphonia last night and officially started Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Part of me wants to slap Emil, however, he is the Woobie Destroyer of Worlds and I know part of the reason for his timidness is the fact that he's basically starting from scratch - he has the look of one person, the name of another, and absolutely no memories of either. (See, "Sucks to be Me.") Functioning well in society isn't something he does.

So far it's a little weird - new voices for a good chunk of the cast (only Kratos (the narrator), Colette and Presea have the same voices) and it's going to take some adjusting. But I'm sure I'll make the adjustment. I do enjoy that I can still navigate around towns based on previous experience, though. ^^ On the flip side, battle systems are going to take some adjusting (see, "Damn You Muscle Memory").

At any rate I'll be playing some more this afternoon, so hopefully I'll have a better grip on the game play by then.

mercy_angel_09: (NeasalaxLeanne)
Today's BPAL scent is Szepasszony, The Fair Lady, Winter Witch, White Maiden of the Storm. Szepasszony is a Hungarian demoness that appears as a stunningly beautiful woman with long, silver-white hair and a blinding white dress. She revels in storms, particularly when hail rains down on her. Water dripping down eaves into a puddle is an invitation for her to cause mischief: she uses the puddle as a magickal tool for casting her wicked spells. It is considered foolhardy to step into a circle of short grass ringed by taller grasses, as those mark the circles where the Fair Lady dances. It's a clean scent: clear, airy notes, slashing rain, and a thin undercurrent of white flowers.

It also smells like the Versace Exciting my sister got me. I think I prefer the BPAL version, thanks.

However, I don't think I like it enough to buy it.

(In case you were wondering, I only have 13 more Imp's Ears to sample, so you only have to put up with 13 more days of scent related entries. That is, until I decide to buy more.)

mercy_angel_09: (Heavyarms)
Hubby and I had a "Date Day." We went to lunch at Famous Dave's for BBQ (mmmm...smoked pork...) before heading to see Iron Man 2. I liked it, but I'm a total dork and I love superhero movies (and Marvel comics in general, heh). I'm excited for Thor and of course, The Avengers. \o/

Today's BPAL scent is Cordelia from the Illyria collection - based on the works of William Shakespeare. It has notes of lilac, lemon, green tea, wisteria, osmanthus, white cedar, and Chinese musk, and I like it, and I do like how it smells on me, but I'm not sure that I want to buy a bottle. Jury is still out on that one and I'll have to wear it a few more times to truly gauge if I want to buy it.

Anyway, off to play some vidya games. Ta!

mercy_angel_09: (Amon)
I'm so sore today. I think most of it is because of the weight lifting, but there's part of it that also comes from my accident. I'm just glad that I was able to catch myself and keep myself from hitting my head. Though bailing into the dirt probably helped that as well.

But anyway, let me stress the point with a visual aid:

Not for the easily squicked. )

That is my thigh. What you can't seen in the picture is that is a lovely blackberry color.

In happier news, today's BPAL scent is High John the Conqueror from their Bewitching Brews collection. Smells like roses and lilies, and while it's okay, it's not my favorite. I don't think I'll be buying this one.

Anyway, yesterday was fun. I had movie night with the girls and we made curry and watched Bollywood movies, and all in all had a blast. While out doing some running around (getting snacks and whatnot) we wandered in to Big Lots where I found the "Went with the Wind" Barbie. (By the way, I can spend HOURS on the Barbie Collectors site because I love dolls, and of course, Barbie was my first real doll, and...well, vicious cycle party of one!) But anyway, I love The Carol Burnett Show and "Went with the Wind!" is one my all time favorite sketches. Not buying this doll was not an option. I'm quite proud of myself for this particular find.

mercy_angel_09: (Amon)
You know how I was so proud of myself for getting back on to skates and NOT falling?

Oh yeah...I wiped out twice today. Thank God I had the brains to buy knee pads, elbow pads and wrist pads or else I would be in a lot more pain than I am right now. As it stands my arm (which was uncovered because I was wearing a tank top) has a lovely road rash on it. Hurt like a mofo when I showered, but at least I know there's no grit in it.

Today's daily dose of BPAL is Alice's Evidence from the Mad Tea Party collection. I smell like baked goods and spicy tea. Or that potpourri that my mother always makes around Christmas. Either way, I smell good. (Chase, buddy, I'm sorry if I'm making your feel bad. Honestly, most of the blogging about the perfume is to give me a written record of what I liked and what I didn't. Because, you know, writing it down in a .txt or a .docx file would have been easy.) I may have to get a bottle of this some day. At any rate, it beats smelling like an old lady!!

mercy_angel_09: (Witch Hunter Robin)
So at Sakura-Con I bought three bottles of perfume at the BPAL booth. I was actually only going to buy two - Lolita and Wrath - and somehow decided that I needed the bottle of Lorelei. (I don't regret the Lorelei purchase, I wear it all the time.) The cool thing about BPAL is that when you buy perfume, they toss in a few handfuls of Imp's Ears - sample vials to entice you to buy even MORE perfume.

It works, by the way.

I've finally decided, as mentioned in yesterday's post, that I'm going to sample the crapton of Imp's Ears that I got. Yesterday was the Fascinum, which despite its inspiration, I really like. I like how it smells in the bottle and I like how it smells on me. I may actually get a bottle of that. Eventually.

Today's perfume is The Mock Turtle's Lesson, which is from their Mad Tea Party collection, inspired, of course, by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I have quite a few Imp's Ears from the Mady Tea Party collection, and The Mock Turtle's Lesson just happened to be the one that I pulled from the bag today. Smelling it in the bottle reminded me of this bottle of perfume I inherited from one of my great-grandmothers years and years ago. It smells heavily of irises. Interestingly enough, The Mock Turtle's Lesson also has iris in it, and the other scents mixed in with it make the whole perfume smell like that bottle that's currently hiding somewhere in my guest room.

I smell like my great-grandmothers.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Smelling like them takes me back to happier times - even if my childhood, in retrospect, wasn't all that happy. At least I was more or less oblivious to the shit storm at that point. Anyway, scent is considered one of the senses with the strongest ties to memories, and so smelling like my great-grandmothers takes me back. A walk down memory lane with a hint of nostalgia.

I wonder if they could make a perfume out of that.
