My car is clean. Like, make sure you're wearing some sort of protective eyewear when you look it because it's so damn shiny.

The weather this spring has been absolute crap and I just now got a good enough forecast to allow for me to wash my car to the nth degree. My husband started early, washing his car and then doing the clay polish on it, followed by waxing it. After I dragged myself out of bed (rather reluctantly because my bed was nice and cozy and the idea of sleeping forever seemed really good) and fed myself, I forced myself to go for a bike ride. Once I got home and showered, I took some time to have coffee, followed by quickly throwing stuff in the dishwasher and running it before going to wash my car so it could also get the polish and wax.

And now my husband, sweetheart that he is, is changing the oil in my car as well as getting the headlight casings restored because they're cloudy and therefore not very effective.

I'm doing laundry (joy) and I should probably empty the dishwasher. Of course after being on my feet for most of the afternoon means that I really just want to sprawl on the bed and not move until tomorrow morning. Not that it's going to actually happen, mind you, because there is a boatload of laundry to do and I really shouldn't put off the dishes.

Even if I want to.

It snowed sometime during the night. That means that the roads are completely covered in snow and slush, and I still haven't had any winter driving experience in a front wheel drive car. I can rock in the show in a rear wheel drive car, but I've never actually driven in a front wheel drive. Hell if I know exactly how that happened, but I digress.

Anyway I'm going to bundle up and head out, and I'm going to try and find an empty parking lot to get my bearings in. The way we see it is that this is as bad as it's going to get as far as driving conditions go, so that if I can handle this I can theoretically throw anything else nature throws at us.

Wish me luck. I'll probably be back later to update how my little trip went.

Not like it matters that I'm not writing for NaNo right now - I'm pretty far ahead so it's not like I have to write today. Obviously I still am, and I'll probably write tonight as I watch the finale of Dancing With the Stars, Skating With the Stars and Castle. I've written less than 500 words today, but it's less to do with being uninspired and more about "Oh hey, it's snowing!"

Speaking of snow, I mentioned last night that it was really coming down. When I woke up it was very lightly snowing and petered off after half an hour. At eleven thirty it was starting up again and by noon there's enough that it's starting to pile up again. Normally I wouldn't care and would just enjoy it, but I have a meeting for a fundraiser I'm working for at 5:15 tonight. I'm planning on leaving a hour before and spend some time checking out the library (it was remodeled last year and I am as yet to officially check it out) before going across the street to the meeting.

My car's battery is on the old side, so there was slight paranoia about if my car would even START. If it didn't it's not like it's a big deal to catch the bus, but I'd rather not. After some coughing and sputtering my car finally started up and purred quite nicely. I cleaned off the snow as I let her sit and warm up, before turning her off and heading back in to officially eat lunch. I'm going to have to clean off my car again, but it's better than having the three to four inches that was already on it to have an addition one to two inches.

That just leaves driving. Last year I never really had a reason to drive in the snow, and while the previous owner says that the car does well in the snow, I've never actually tested this for myself. Because it's warm enough out that the roads are just wet, I should be fine. I probably won't be doing any driving tomorrow because it's gonna be slicker than snot on a door knob. No chance of a Chinook blowing through either, because it's supposed to be cold and STAY cold through Thanksgiving.

On the plus side, theoretically it should be pretty and white as I decorate for Christmas this weekend.

Anyway, I should get back to NaNo - I have some tea and good music to write to.

I smell like almonds, myrrh and dark musk. I smell quite witchy, actually. Today's scent is Hecate from BPAL's Excolo collection. It's rather enchanting in a dark and mysterious way. I like it, and I think I may get a bottle of it down the road.

In other news, I'm plugging along in DotNW because I have copious amounts of downtime, even though I should probably go through all of my drawers again and clean out the stuff that I don't wear anymore. I should probably also get a box to put all of this in, but that would require use of my car, which is currently down with a case of, "WTF SPEAKERS GO IN." My husband is replacing all of the speakers in my car (since he replaced the back deck speakers two weeks ago) to give me the most rockin' sound system EVER. In theory this is all great and grand, except he's having issues getting the speakers into the car. I'm wondering if he should have started with the back door speakers instead of the front door speakers, because I could still use my car.

I have the sinking feeling that I'm housebound for the next couple of days until he can get everything figured out.

Boo.

Well, I suppose I should finish cleaning off the grill. I need to get that taken care of so we can do dinner the rest of the week.

So I finished my first "full" week of work on a less than spectacular note. As in, I was sent home early because there was nothing to do at the office. Apparently the big boss that I work under has sent out an office wide memo that reads along the lines of, "FIND SOMETHING FOR THE TEMPS TO DO BECAUSE WE CAN'T JUST HAVE THEM SITTING AROUND DOING NOTHING. WE WILL DISCUSS THIS MONDAY AND NO, THIS ISN'T OPTIONAL."

Heh.

Also, the reason why "full" is in quotation marks like that is because I work what's known as Nine-Eights - eighty hours in nine days, so every other Friday is off. Tomorrow is said Friday off.

Which leads me to the next order of business, SakuraCon. We're leaving at the asscrack o' dawn tomorrow morning for Seattle, partly because the pass is teh suck, and partly because we have to stand in line for a while waiting to get our badges and whatnot. Woo. So I'm going to charge up the DS, charge up my iPod, charge up my camera battery and throw everything into my messenger bag (that I'll be using at my purse) and my suitcase so I can just get up and go tomorrow.

I also found out that one of the people who was supposed to be caravanning with us has actually brought a minivan, so I'm not actually driving tomorrow. Good news because I don't want to fuck around with Seattle traffic, but bad news because I was totally stoked to drive my car and rock out with my uber-awesome stereo. Bah.

Anyway, now that I am fed and happy, I have a few more errands left to run. Wooooooo.

So I'm going to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] desertkitsune today, but before all of that could go down, I had to make a few repairs to my cars. More specifically, one. The dome light was out when I bought the car, and a few weeks ago I finally got around to purchasing a replacement bulb. My husband had originally gone out to fix the bulb, but was unable to get the cover off. This morning I went down and found exactly where to place to screw driver to get the cover off and then removed the dome light. However in the process of replacing it, I blew the fuse.

I will be making a couple of quick pit stops before I do anything else today (including getting gas and stopping at the bank). Because with that one fuse blown, I can't use my key fob to lock and unlock the doors, none of the interior lights work, and neither does the stereo (strangely enough I can lock and unlock the doors using the button on the door, since apparently that's on a different fuse - but supposedly so is the stereo system and that's not working).

Of course, as all of this is going down, it isn't lost on me that today I chose to wear my "Self-Rescuing Princess" tee shirt.

Oh my God, another meme? Really? )

Oh for the love of...*sigh* (Expect the New Years resolutions to appear at the appropriate time.)

Anyway, some things are coming up quicker than I had originally thought, today I have a few errands to run.

1) Check to see how much I paid to get some work done on my car (i.e. oil change, lights changed, etc.). Bless Jiffy Lube for all of their work, but I really didn't need as much work as they were trying to push on me. However I am LAZY and didn't want to change the lights on my own. Which reminds me, I still need to talk to my husband about my car battery showing signs of corrosion.

2) Make necessary repairs to my dress. One of the seams is a little weak, so I need to reinforce that, make the darts along my bust, and make one last check for any compromised parts. Which shouldn't be a problem. I also need to buy a clutch to match because like HELL I'm going to a party without a little cash or ID.

3) Buy new shirt and tie for husband. The red shirt with the black/red/gold/silver tie combo has worked for the last couple of years, but this year I've opted for the cool color scheme as opposed to the warm color scheme. Today, I venture forth into the mall to find him a shirt and a tie. Woo.

See, I wouldn't really about thinking about items two and three right now, except my husband called me earlier and said, "So the party is this weekend not next weekend." Which of course makes me ridiculously happy that I finished the dress back in October, and I only have to make a few changes to it. Hopefully finding a shirt/tie for the husband will also be fairly easy - with him having gray eyes it means that he can wear pretty much anything. Blue FTW!

At any rate, I'm going to head out to the mall in a bit with my Christmas playing at full (sorry to Mark Hildreth, as I have enjoyed your music immensely, but tis the season and all that).

...And now my husband has just informed me that I can't leave because all of our gear for our HTPC is supposed to arrive this afternoon. So we'll go shopping for him tomorrow and I'm going to pull out my sewing machine and make the quick fixes to my dress this afternoon.

I guess that means a few things are now on the back burner. (y_-)

First of all: NaNo.

Trucking along on NaNo, though all regular NaNo related updates are still at [livejournal.com profile] penismighter Word count is sufficient for now, plot seems to be holding together, and the characters are finally holding fully formed conversations in my head as I scramble to get it all into a .docx file. I did take a break to write a short Castle drabble that is posted in [livejournal.com profile] castle_fic and on FF.net. I'm even thinking that I'll write a few drabbles for the series as I work on my NaNo when I figure I need a break.

Second: Sold the Thunderbird.

Dirty Diana is no longer mine - I did the transaction this afternoon. I only got $200 for her, but to be perfectly honest I didn't expect to get much more that $250, and at this point I was tired of the lack of response on Craigslist. I'm still holding onto the money though - if this guy decides that he doesn't want the car, I'm willing to buy it back for the $200. But he's only got until December 5th to decide that he doesn't want it. After that month, it's his.

Third: Today is Bonfire Night, so I post the following poem below the cut so as not to spam/offend my f-list.

This is the whole thing, people, anti-Catholic bits and all! )

By the way, most people only know the first part of the poem, mostly thanks to is repeated use in V for Vendetta. However it is commonly recited on November 5th in Great Britain, Canada, and sometimes Australia to the first "Hip Hip horrah!" The part about killing the Pope is often left out anymore, the UK having finally comes to terms with that whole freedom-or-religion thing - though I still get the feeling they still aren't particularly fond of the Catholics. If anyone is insanely curious, ask and I shall tell you all that I know about the holiday - I had to come up with a lesson plan for it in my methods of teaching social studies class. (And yes, I did that by choice.)

Fourth: I can totally hook up my computer to my TV and use it as a monitor.

d00d. I can watch Hulu on an actual TV. I think I'm going to invite [profile] sideshow_ericka over on her birthday and see if she wants to watch Inuyasha: The Final Act on the TV. Cuz it's ridiculously pretty. ZOMG.

Fifth: I need Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on DVD.

I don't know how many people on my f-list have even seen the film, but it's a GREAT MOVIE. Great musical numbers, great dancer numbers, and solid performances from Howard Keel, Jane Power and a very young Russ Tamblyn (who would be best know for his role as Riff in West Side Story and being the father of Joan of Arcadia actress Amber Tambyln). Oh yes, can't forget that Julie Newmar (as in To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar AKA Catwoman) had her first major film role as Dorcus Gailen. You can tell that MGM put very little towards the production of the film, instead channeling what should have been its budget to Briagadoon, which did well but didn't match the success of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I happened to be up when it came on TCM last night, so I stayed up until one AM, happily dorking out on the film and humming, "Bless Your Beautiful Hide" as I brushed my teeth before going to bed. And yes, the song is STILL stuck in my head.  Must get this movie so I can watch it whenever I want.

I think that sums everything up for now.  I'm starting to fall asleep and I hopefully this will be the last night I need anything medicine related before I go to bed.

Finally, after several months of looking, I'm finally getting a new car.  And by new car I mean a reliable car with working parts that will not crap out on me when I need it most.  Booyah.  It's a 2003 Mazda Protege ES, which currently belongs to a friend of mine.  Since she just had a car handed to her, she needs to unload the Mazda and is giving me a really good deal - as in pay what's left of the loan and it's mine (which is a couple of thousand dollars LESS than KBB price).  She's getting the windshield repaired tomorrow afternoon, and probably cleaning it out as well.  Apparently it was detailed not too long ago but it's managed to get pretty messy in the past couple of weeks.

The car has everything I need - cruise control, working heat/AC, CD player, automatic transmission - and best of all, FOUR DOORS.  HA.

Reliable transportation will go a long way in helping me look for a job, as I was really limiting myself to what I knew Dirty Diana could handle.  I really never wanted to take her out of my immediate area, even if there were better job offers across town.  Now with a halfway decent car, I can look around in a much broader area.

I'm still looking for something in the 9-5 range because even though a lot of the retail stores around here are starting their seasonal hiring, I know I'll get the crap shifts where I'd never see my husband.  I'd much rather work a schedule where I can see my husband and not a "he comes home as I leave" sort of deal.  It's irritating, to say the least, and not an easy thing for a fledgling marriage (hell, not an easy thing on an established marriage as my mom working one of those jobs was hell on her marriage to my step-dad).  Besides, it's not like I NEED to work.  Even if something happened and my husband was unable to work, we'd be set for a year - and that's just the savings.  Of course if he was unable to work, I'd be turning my application to the large internet shopping site call center where most of my friends work ASAP.  I know a decent job when I see one, but I don't necessarily need it at the moment.

At any rate, I'm just relieved that I'm going to have a running car soon.
