I was shocked when I learned that the re-done tanboken were being released in the States! I couldn't believe it! One Manga, while still operational, had actually published chapters from it, and I could see how much clean-up had been done, well a few re-writes to make some of the dialogue flow better.
They're beautiful, and I had hoped that maybe we could get a re-release of them, so I was really excited when I heard the Kondasha USA would be handling the it. Not that I hated how Mixx/Chixx/Tokyopop handled it, but it operated under the same limitations as the anime. I think it will be wonderful to have the manga with a more direct translation.
I also don't harbor any ill will towards DiC. Yes, I wish that there had been a more faithful adaption, but they were following an industry standard when they localized it. And really, it's just stupid to hate them for that.
At any rate I find that I also prefer the original Japanese version. While it's still a kid show, it doesn't pull any punches. I wish more American TV shows did that.
