Blatant displays of consumerism
Dec. 6th, 2009 03:42 pmI did a chunk of my Christmas shopping today, however my step-dad's actual gift will not arrive until AFTER the holiday, so I'm gonna get him something small to get on actual Christmas and then when his gift arrives I'll get it to him. However, the rest of the items that were ordered online will arrive with plenty of time before the big holiday (including the gift for my mother's birthday, which is a week before Christmas). Both of my brothers are presenting problems, however my brother's love in Lego AND Indiana Jones means that I can get him one of the sets, but I may have to talk to my younger sister about which ones he has so I don't end up repeating. My other brother will probably get something for Wii or Xbox...it's kind of a pain in the butt to shop for him because he has no idea what he wants. Boys on the F-list, what does a 23 year old boy want?
I already know what my husband is getting, as does he. Two things for sure, and since we decided to spend no more than $100 on each other (or just a little bit over, if that was how it happened) he'll be getting something interesting and small. Not sure what, exactly (I think I'm only going to have about fifteen to twenty dollars to work with), but something. (Anyone have any ideas?)
Anyway, I also decided that I needed a new icon. Behold, Meeko from Pocahontas, slamming the compass against the rock. I felt that I needed icon that showed frustration and not necessarily anger (which is what Renge is fore) or confusion (Shigure). Besides, I love me some raccoon....
Dude, totally watched a squirrel fall about ten feet in the shrubs that separate the apartment complex from the houses behind them. Heh. Kamikaze squirrels!!! (Squirrel, where?)
Back on topic, Meeko is my buddy - I instantly attached myself to the little gluttonous trouble maker. The next Christmas my parents got me a HUGE Meeko plush, he's probably close to life size, granted he lives near people. X3 For over ten years Meeko has been my snuggle buddy and constant companion - and if there was enough room in the bed with me and my husband, he'd STILL be in bed with me. He never complains when I'm sick nor does he care if I snore. He's just the right size for me to wrap my arms around and snuggle tight. Meeko is my friend, and always will be. I fully expect my children to look at this well loved raccoon and ask why I love him so much, but the first time they hug him, they'll understand. (Quick anecdote: Whenever my younger siblings were sick, I'd lend them Meeko because for some reason, he always made them feel better.)
I may make a few more Pocahontas themed icons, or not. I have a bunch of screen shots that I can use but I don't think that I'll make a ton and post them for others to use. At this point I just don't feel like it. (Oh yes, I'm feeling lazy at the moment.) Besides, I have more important things to do (like make
chaosblue 's dress).
