Strangely enough, my least favorite episode is also my favorite episode. While "Raincoats and Recipes" is great because Luke and Lorelai finally get together after four seasons of Ship Tease, it also made me really angry.
At this point Rory makes some sort of Face Heel Turn where she goes from being smart and witty to being dumb and whiney. The whole sleeping with Dean even though he's married? Uh, what? I feel like this is something that Rory, even after being at college for a year, would never do. First of all, despite being somewhat desperate for a boyfriend at the end of season four (probably not helped by Tanna pointing out that Rory was boyfriendless the whole school year and everyone else trying to set her up), Rory generally had enough common sense to avoid such a situation. And her jumping all over Lorelai for sleeping with Christopher back in season two?
First of all, Christopher and Sherry were over. Sherry was in the process of moving out. Then she found out that she was pregnant. So they got engaged (and do we ever know for sure that they even got married?) and started to raise Gigi until Sherry bolted. The the point IS that Lorelai didn't set a crappy example - Rory merely lashed out at her mother with an illogical assumption that wasn't even correct.
And sadly, for me, the rest of the seasons showed Rory Got Worse. I don't think she even remotely returned to the Rory we all grew to love until midway through season seven, where, even without direction from ASP, she was a more grown up version of the original Rory. Seriously, I never thought that Rory could annoy me until this episode, and she spends most of seasons five and six getting worse. Ugh.
