So. Cold. Barely. Functioning.

Actually, my apartment isn't freezing. It's 68 degrees, but I'm also wearing two pairs of socks (one pair regular cotton and the other pair fleece), my Doc Martins, Jeans, a long sleeved shirt and a zip up hoodie. I'm actually quite comfortable. This is probably also helped by the fact that I had a pot of water on the stove simmering in an attempt to get some humidity back into the air.
It's still colder than cold outside - but I'm fully planning on spending my day inside, with cocoa or tea, and working on my novel. We shouldn't be getting any more snow dumped on us for a while, but this stuff is going to hang around for a while - followed by freezing rain. Oh joy. (Please note all intended sarcasm.) I volunteered to go help my grandma clean house and whatnot tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll make it over there. For one it might be too cold and my car won't start. Secondly, I have no idea if the roads will be good enough for me to drive on. Yes, I would like to know how it handles in snow but I'm certainly not about to test it in these conditions. And again, I have no idea if my car will even start. So much for getting the battery replaced before the cold hit.
Anyway, back to work on my novel. The finish line is close and I'm gunning to get as much done before Thanksgiving as I can.
And on an unrelated note, happy Festivus.

Date: 2010-11-23 09:54 pm (UTC)It is raining here and maybe 58F outside, with moderate wind gusts. Nothing too dramatic.
The bad thing about freezing rain is downed power lines and broken tree limbs.
The good thing about freezing rain is, if it is thick enough ice to hold your weight over the snow, or if there isn't snow under it, it is fantastic for sledding and tobogganing. (A thin layer over snow merely cracks and traps your runners as they break through it.)
Use a sheet of cardboard if your toy-inventory is sled-challenged.
When I was 7 I used a cafeteria tray...

Date: 2010-11-23 09:59 pm (UTC)I have to admit, I'm not particularly fond of driving after there's been freezing rain, but that my stem from the time I slid into the gutter (and thankfully not a car) in front of one of my neighbor's house in my old pick-up truck.
The major concern for today was if there was going to be a layer of ice under the snow, as yesterday morning most of what had accumulated the night before had melted, which then got another two to three inches of snow on top of that. Schools and the site were on a two hour delay this morning, with only essential personnel reporting at the regular time.

Date: 2010-11-25 03:08 am (UTC)The downside is that it's not supposed to warm up like they were originally predicting and we're supposed to get more snow tomorrow. Which should make driving home from my grandparents' house after dinner tomorrow loads of fun.
As for NaNo, I'm in the home stretch where I really don't feel like writing, but I know that I need to. I've only manged 651 words for today, and I'd like to the the other 1016 that I need for the "daily" goal of 1667. Even cranking good music isn't inspiring me. I may need to just pick a soundtrack and start writing and see what happens.
