We Can Has Thunderstorms?
Jul. 31st, 2010 12:21 pmA thunderstorm rolled in around midnight last night, far enough away the flashes weren't obvious and the thunder a distant rumble. No rain, which around here is VERY BAD, at least until about three AM. At that point the storm was overhead, and that was when there was a crack of thunder loud enough that it woke me and my husband out of a dead sleep and the flashes did a nice job of illuminating the room even though the blinds were drawn. Even better, though, was that it started raining. Always a good thing, especially when you wake up and look outside to see that there's smoke in the air.
This morning it decided to give us two, distinct downpours before ending around ten thirty. And of course, I woke up to the rumbles of thunder. So we had a thunderstorm that lasted nearly eight hours. And we're supposed to get more later this afternoon. Hopefully we'll also get more rain, because outside smells distinctly of damp smoke - something I relate to someone dumping a bucket of water on top of a campfire to douse it at night. Not exactly the least pleasant of smells, but I've smelled better post-precipitation. But yeah, more storms and I think they're supposed to last through tomorrow morning.
As you can all well imagine, most of the electronics will be off and unplugged when the storms start up again.
In other news, my adopted bro and his wife just had their second daughter this morning. His older sister will be rolling into town in a couple of hours and then we'll go visit the happy parents. Other than that, I'm thinking today will be pretty chill. Need some lunch and then maybe play a few video games or something.
