Okay, stupid spelling over with.

For now.

Anyway, as some of you are aware, I'm in a costuming group.  I've spent the last two and a half weeks constructing my Care Bear loli and my Steampunk outfit.  (I'm currently making a cheap-ass petticoat out of tulle, netting and a cheap slip from Target for both costumes.)

ANYWAY the next big costume event is my Goddess and my My Little Pony.

My MLP is taken care of.  I just have to buy pants and make a jacket.  I'm probably going to buy arm warmers as well.  What I need help with is my goddess.  Kind of.  I am going to be Athena.  I have a chestplate in the making (a cheap tee shirt and duct-tape currently, will be covered with copper colored vinyl and painted on), I'll probably see if I can order a Greco-Roman helm online, I have what are essentially gladiator sandals, but what I'm having issues with is the kind of fabric to use.  AND COLOR.  The pattern I'm using is a tunic-style dress and it will be white.  But I do need to make a psudo-blouse that will be made of colored fabric that will be worn under the chestplate.

So my question to my LJ friends is:

When you think of Athena, what color do you think of?

Also, any fabric suggestions will be welcome.  Granted you know your different types of fabrics.  :3

Please and thank you!

Athena had more than her share of influence. Crafts, wisdom, patron of heroes.. but she's also very much a goddess ready for battle. The depictions of Athena that are most memorable to me invoke that influence. Specifically the goddess helmeted and carrying a spear.

I'd probably vote for a metallic colour (gold or bronze) if you can find them. But that's just me. She is ordinarily clad in white, and you've already got that covered.

(Btw... any chance of us seeing pics of the Steampunk outfit?)

Red. And have you searched art history sources for Athena? She had lots of statues to her, and ALL the statues were originally painted in brilliant color. Additionally, every year they had a special ceremony at the Parthenon to dress the statue and barbecue sacrifice an ox. You can see what colors the Greeks thought she wore.
