Because, as you know, time does march on
Dec. 11th, 2008 06:28 pmMy mother turns fifty in a week. Because my step-dad works full time and doesn't have a party throwing bone in his body (at least when it comes to the over 13 crowd), and I'm currently unemployed and LIVE for this kind of stuff, I'm managing various aspect of the party. Like the invitations. }:)
I've decided that the invites have to be somewhat humorous. So there's a line about guests being invited to console her about "being over the hill with one foot in the grave." I was also thinking about saying that mourner's attire would be appropriate as well - though I'm not sure if that's funny or mean. Of course all of this has to be approved by my step-dad first, so he'll have the final say about what goes in and what doesn't. However that doesn't mean that I can't have a little fun in the planning stages. As it stands, I'm going to try and get these sent tomorrow morning so that people can get back to us ASAP so that food planning and prep can get under way.
In two days my brother arrives from Miami, wearing naught but a sweatshirt and a light jacket. And it's supposed to be at and below freezing for the first few days he's here. I called him and told him to bring his coat because it's going to be BFC (butt fucking cold, as my husband says) but my brother is sure he'll be fine. So I'm hoping that he's looking at the weather report, because it's going to be COLD and I will be laughing my ass off as he freezes his off if he doesn't bring a coat.
Yes, dear younger brother gets to join in on the whole Mom birthday party thing, which I think will be for the best. ^^ He can decorate while I deal with food, plus he can help me run around and make sure that we have enough supplies. Joy!
