So I don't know when it started but one year, when we lined up everyone's jack-o-lanterns on the kitchen counter, someone said, "Well, those are some great pumpkins!" and they somebody yelled, "Great pumpkin!" and it sort of caught on. So now when someone says, "Great [insert noun here]!" everyone else yells back, "GREAT [insert noun here]!" Even on Facebook and Twitter.

Anyway, carved my pumpkin tonight. After a couple of years of pumpkins of being of questionable freshness when Halloween finally rolled around, my family started doing it a couple of days before. Disney's family site had a bunch of pumpkin templates for designs featuring their characters - Jack Skellington to Phineas and Ferb (and Perry the Platypus!) to Ariel and Mater. I opted for Maleficent's dragon form from Sleeping Beauty, which is appropriately creepy but also fun. Though Jack Skellington was a close second.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! )

In honor of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my friend list, etc. etc.). The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

In the spirit of Halloween, I've decided to host an online "party" and thanks to this lovely generator, this is what everyone on my F-list will be going as. And keep in mind that this is randomly generated so I have no control over what people get dressed up as.

I am so not responsible for this. I just want to remind you of that. )
Throw your own party at the Hallomeme!

Okay, okay, I know - Nightmare Before Christmas + 300 = WTF are you thinking?

But I come bearing memage. XD From everyone else on LJ, y'know.   If you were wondering, these are randomly generated - I didn't sit and come up with something for you.  If you don't like what you're dressed as. blame the generator.  Or just roll with it for some epic LOLZ.

Real post to come when I actually have something worth while to post.

Oh dear, I knew I should have hid the hard alcohol! )

So I need to do some personal touch up work before the wedding tomorrow. Unfuzz legs, tweeze the eyebrows, make sure that my hair has something nice in it - you know, make myself presentable for a wedding. Because even though the bride said that I could wear whatever, I'm old school and firmly believe that one dresses up when going to church or to a wedding. And while I'm planning on wearing a black taffeta dress, the purple bolero jacket that I'll also be wearing makes it a little more casual.  Though I may hit up the silk flowers at Wally World this afternoon and see if I can find a nice purple flower to pin to the hip of the dress and make it a little more fun as well.  I also have to pick shoes - and coming from someone who has at least three different pairs of black heels, this is going to take much hemming and hawing and asking people, "What do you think?  This shoe or this shoe?"

I'm also starting to feel better, though for some reason I feel much warmer than usual.  And because I'm usually someone who's freezing even in the middle of the summer, I feel like I should be concerned, even if I'm not running a fever.  Sadly, I've reached that point in the cold where I can feel the mucous in my lungs, so sometimes I feel (and sound) like death walking.  If I could be sick over Halloween, I'd seriously consider being a zombie.  Maybe a zombie bride's maid or the Corpse Bride.  Could be fun.  Anyway, I'm glad to be finally kicking this stupid cold, though I have this niggling feeling in the back of my mind that it'll hang around for another week or so.

All and all, things are pretty quiet around here.  I'm starting in on my gift for the birthday party, and hopefully it will be done by this evening - granted I actually feel up to assembling it.  I also have to figure out what we're doing for dinner next week.  To the cookbooks!!

Since it's close to Halloween, it's that wonderful time of year that occupies the fun center of my brain: costumes.  I am a costume junkie.  Whore, you might even say.  There's nothing I love more than an excuse to put on a costume and play dress up.  It think that's part of me that never grew up.

Because I don't want to bore you with details... )
I'm having lots of fun costuming, but being a slave to my sewing machine for weeks on end wasn't.  I liked the opportunity to get to know my sewing machine though.  After learning my mom's machine and getting comfortable with it, I've finally had a chance to learn a newer machine that works wonderfully, even when when the operator might be otherwise incapacitated.
