I think it's safe to say that I have a rather unique holiday tradition.  This goes back a couple of years when my friend Ericka first handed me the Hellsing TV series box set.  She gave me instructions along with it.

1) Best not to watch it alone
2) Best to watch it in a well lit room
3) Don't go to bed immediately after

Oh yes, when have I EVER followed instructions like that?

Never, would be the correct answer.  I popped the DVDs in and watched it by myself in my family room, lit only by the Christmas tree I was sitting next to (so I was basically watching it in the dark).  I remember snuggling down into my blankets on the couch and watching in morbid fascination as the characters blew each other to smitherines.  I also remember being highly amused at the innuendo that was flying around.  You could tell that the manga-ka of Hellsing also wrote hentai series.  At any rate, I love the series because it's so off color and violent and have since given it a place of honor in my collection.

So now every year at Christmas, I watch Hellsing.  Preferably alone.  In the dark.  Right before bed.  Because while Hellsing is violent and gorey and intense, it really isn't scary.  It's just gross in places (the series on a whole follows Anime Law number #18 - Law of Hemoglobin Capacity - The human body contains over twelve gallons of blood, sometimes more under pressure) and other times it's so far into the rediculous that you can't help but giggle though it.  Usually the scenes your laughing through involve either snarky and smary dialogue from Alucard, or Seras being, well Seras.  Why yes, one of the main characters is the comic relief.  It's more or less violent animated crack, but my love for the series runs deep.
