Cheezburger Nite at Safeco

Welcome home, Griffey, welcome home.
Apr. 15th, 2009 08:45 pmSo it's baseball season. This is a good thing. :3 I like baseball, and it's an easy sport to follow while you're doing something else. I was very good at sitting and cross stitching while watching a game. Or having in depth conversations with my older sister. The point is, I'm a big fan of baseball, and I'm totally stoked that it's that time of year again.
And that the Mariners are actually doing well this season.
And that Ken "The Kid" Griffey, Jr. is back in Seattle.
I understood and respected his decision to leave, because he wanted to be closer to his family, and family is important. And very few players stay with a single ball club their ENTIRE careers. Edgar Martinez is one of the few players that I can name off the top of my head that stayed his entire career with one team. The Seattle Mariners. But the point is that players are traded, or as free agents sign with a club to move to a specific club/city/location/payroll. Griffey, Jr. left as a free agent to be close to family. Anyway, I'm rambling.
Tonight is Jackie Robinson night, so every player is wearing 42 (which of course is the answer to life, the universe and everything). And this is something across the league. Anyway, Seattle is doing quite well. This is the first time they've been first in the AL West since 2002. Seven years. Now I know how Cubs fans feel. Ken Griffey, Jr. also hit his 400th home run as a Seattle Mariner, and 613th career home run.

Within minutes of posting this, Ichiro hit a grand slam, the fourth of his career, and affirming his return to the Seattle line-up.
"Get out the rye bread and mustard, Grandma, it is grand salami time!"
