[Poll #1606879]

So a friend of mine is seriously considering getting an eReader. She's considering it for a number of reasons, i.e. not enough space for actual books, she wants to use it for text books if she goes back to college, etc. When she brought this up around a couple of friends, they immediately jumped on her to buy a Kindle. Not that I don't appreciate their feedback, but let's just say that I'm more than a little wary about their glowing endorsements because they just so happen to work for Amazon. Just like I would be wary about a Barnes and Noble employee pushing the virtues of the Nook or an Apple Store employee pushing the virtues of an iPad.

Needless to say, the two of us have been online most of the morning, chatting and doing research about the various eReaders on the market. So far the debate is really between the Kindle and the Nook. Both have some great features, and both have some draw backs. What I think it will really come down to is that choosing an eReader is based on what features you want vs. what someone in the store tells you that you need.

With her criteria in mind, my friend and I have been discussing what features are an absolute must(availability of collegiate text books) and which ones should she could go without (uber-long battery life). This is not a purchase that is being made lightly, and at the moment we encourage input from everyone. Even those that work for Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Apple. Just please keep in mind something as mind-numbing as, "It's better than Brand X...why? Just because it is," will not be acceptable. It will induce eye rolling and faceplams.
